First “Chicago” lit up the silver screen back in 2002 but was then masked by “Phantom of the Opera” two years later. In 2005 it seemed as though “Rent” was due and when 2007 rolled around we all had our fix of “Hairspray,” plus let’s not forget to mention how we couldn’t resist ya, “Mamma Mia,” and so now here we go again … but this time we are in store for something much more “Wicked!”
Now that James Cameron has defied gravity with “Avatar,” it seems as though Idina Menzel isn’t going to let her age get in the way of her reprising her role of Elphaba, the future wicked — if you will –— in the movie version of “Wicked.”
“I called the producer and I said, ‘Now that 'Avatar' is really big…’ — they keep saying they aren’t going to do [‘Wicked’] for a while, so Kristin [Chenoweth] and I will be too old — 'so, if you do it with special effects, you can just paint out our wrinkles and you can have the essence of us and have our voice and our acting and just, you know, green-ify me, and make it like 'Avatar.'' He thought it was a good idea.” Idina said with a laugh, then sarcastically added, “But he’s probably going to go cast Vanessa Hudgens.”
Even if Idina and Kristin never make it back to Shiz University, the question still remains whether or not “Wicked” will make it to the box office. “I think so,” Idina told Hollywood Crush. “They are so successful all around the world; they don't need a movie to make money right now. They usually wait till something like that dies down a little, and then they, you know, get a movie out there to get all the hype again.”
Would you like to see Idina Menzel in the movie version of “Wicked” if it ever gets underway?
