If you were hoping that the Bradshaw-Big matchup of Sex and the City would last forever, watch out: there's a dark horse on the horizon. The "SATC" sequel contains a much-awaited cameo by Aidan Shaw, a.k.a. The Ex-Boyfriend, a.k.a. the only man who could ever throw a wrench in Carrie Bradshaw's happily-ever-after with the man of her dreams. But while Carrie might have mixed feelings about encountering her old flame during the ladies' cinematic adventures in Abu Dhabi, Sarah Jessica Parker doesn't have a single reservation! The star of the new movie says she's thrilled to be back on screen with John Corbett, the actor who plays him.
"John Corbett is gold," said Sarah Jessica, sitting down with MTV News to talk about the reunion of their characters — and cleverly dodge any and all questions about whether Aidan's reemergence on the scene could be (gasp!) a threat to Carrie's marriage.
"I think the truth is that [SATC writer/director] Michael [Patrick King] really lets a story tell itself," she said, coyly. "That he doesn't think so much about 'Will this or won't this please an audience.'"
Well, fine. But what kind of story is it? Are the sparks still there? Does Carrie exact a total reversal of the show's earlier plotline and cheat on Big with Aidan? PLEASE, just give us a HINT!
Of course, SJP is too smart to give away even the tiniest plot detail.
"I think he told a story that really is great for Carrie Bradshaw — or Carrie Preston, depending on who she is at the moment. But I sure love the way he brought John Corbett back!"
Grumble, grumble. But hey, she's right — at least he's back! And Ms. Bradshaw herself is sympathetic to the public's desperate desire to see Aidan just one more time.
"That has been an outcry from the public: 'How could you not have Aidan in the first movie?'" she said, adding, "And therefore Michael went back into his tiny little room in the desert in California and wrote in Aidan."
Fans will just have to wait to see how the Aidan/Big/Carrie love triangle plays out, if there even is one. But depending on the outcome, we hope Michael still has his tiny little desert room available -- he might need a place to hide!
