Finally there is some forward momentum on "Mean Girls 2" (again, to clarify, this is different than "Mean Moms"). Actresses Meaghan Martin and Maiara Walsh posted publicly that they were cast in the film as two of the principle leads.
Meaghan will be the main mean girl, taking the place of Rachel McAdams' Regina. Her character, named Jo, will befriend outcast Abby because Abby's father offers to pay for Jo's expensive college education. We aren't going to question the plausibility of that, since realistic plots aren't what "Mean Girls" is all about, but will note that Abby and her father have not been cast yet.
Following in the fortunate trend of "10 Things I Hate About You" (the TV show) stars getting cast in upcoming projects, Meaghan is best known for playing Bianca in ABC Family's short-lived series as well as Tess from the "Camp Rock" franchise. "I won’t be going on [the Camp Rock] tour because I will be in Atlanta filming ‘Mean Girls 2!’ I will be playing the lead role of Jo!" she posted on her Facebook page.
Maiara's character is currently unnamed, but she will be playing one of Jo's followers, the Plastics. She was most recently seen on this past season of "Desperate Housewives" as the character Ana Solis, as well as on the Disney show "Cory in the House." "So it's official.. I will be playing the lead 'plastic' in Mean Girls 2! I'm off to Atlanta at the end of the month to shoot :)" she tweeted last week.
It seems like "Mean Girls 2" will be following the path of "Mean Girls" in its casting decisions because, if you'll remember, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried were relative unknowns when they were placed in their roles. That means we're expecting some well known hot teen star to take the role of Abby and, if all goes according to plan, all of those times to become household five years down the road.
Are you excited to see "Mean Girls 2"? Are you going to try to go to their open casting call?
