Watching the lives of the pretty and popular play out is always fascinating. There's always something interesting behind those big eyes and perfect hair (did we learn nothing from "Mean Girls?"). Take Lauren Oliver's book, "Before I Fall," for instance. The novel follows Samantha Kingston, a second-semester senior dealing with the usual high school issues: getting into her first-choice college, going to parties, losing her virginity, and re-living the day of her death seven times in a row.
That's right — after a fatal car accident, Sam wakes up on the morning of her death, only to relive it again, "Groundhog Day"-style, a bunch more times. Luckily for us, according to Deadline Hollywood, the film rights were just optioned by Fox 2000, and now we'll be able to see everything play out on the big screen.
So, who should play Sam in the movie? She and her friends are kind of like the Plastics of their Connecticut high school, so whichever actress gets cast will need to have the ideal combo of sweetness and cattiness necessary to play a high school queen bee. We imagine her as a slightly meaner Gretchen Weiners, or post-Plastification Cady Heron.
Here are the three ladies we think would be perfect to play the kinda-bitchy, used-to-be-dorky popular girl:
CANDICE ACCOLA
As Elena's BFF on "The Vampire Diaries," Candice has already perfected that sweetly superior sensibility that's so essential to Sam and her group of friends. Plus, she's so captivating every time she's on screen that we're ready to see her in the lead, not just playing second fiddle.
SHENAE GRIMES
Shenae's good at playing good girls gone bad. On both "90210" and "Degrassi: The Next Generation," her nice girl characters turned out to have revealing wild sides. Popular girls with depth and sass? Sounds like Sam to us.
CHELSEA STAUB
The "JONAS" star already has experience playing a mean girl in the "Bratz" movie, so she's no stranger to the popular girl way of life. But as the JoBros sassy wardrobe stylist on "JONAS," she's also refreshingly independent and relatable. It's about time she took a non-Disney role, don't you think?
Who do you think should play Sam in the "Before I Fall" movie? What do you think of our choices?
