This week, we're getting our first glimpses at a whole new Blake Lively. We know her best from her work as the ex-Queen Bee on Manhattan's Upper East Side in "Gossip Girl," while guys know her as that-girl-Justin-Long-fell-in-love-with in "Accepted," but soon people will be knowing her for much more than that.
She has starring roles in the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed "The Town" and opposite Ryan Reynolds in "Green Lantern," both of which are outside her typical role and have hit the news reels the past two days and, we've got to say, we like this new side of Blake.
The trailer for "The Town" premiered before "Inception" and hit the internet yesterday. It gave the general public a chance to see Blake at her slutty, Boston best. Though MTV News got a chance to see the film at Sundance back in January, this is the first time we've seen footage from the movie. It's an edgier Blake than we've seen before and, though she's a bit heavy handed on that Charlestown accent (says an accent-less Bostonian), we could get used to this new side of her acting persona.
Then there's the first still of Blake as Carol Ferris in "Green Lantern" (pictured above, right), which hit the web yesterday and will be featured in this week's Entertainment Weekly. Our collective Hollywood Crush hearts skip little beats at the idea of Blake in a super nerdy superhero movie and eventually become a super villain (fingers crossed for a sequel). I know I for one can't wait to see what the "Green Lantern" San Diego Comic-Con panel will provide, and for the fact Blake will be there.
All in all, both films are a marked departure from the Blake we've seen in "Gossip Girl," the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" films, and even "Accepted." Only after the films come out will we know if Blake is any good at her expanded acting palate, but for now, we're glad to see her get out of Manhattan ... even if it is only to Boston, or wherever the Guardians of the Universe are residing nowadays.
Do you like this new side of Blake Lively? What type of roles would you prefer her in?
