Comic-Con is right around the corner, and though there will be no "Twilight" (well at least in full effect like the past), there is still plenty to be looking forward to! There's the "True Blood" and "Vampire Diaries" panels, an extended look at "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and — nerdgasm — "Thor," "Tron Legacy" and (fingers crossed) some news on "Batman 3."
But what's even more exciting about the new array of films, TV shows and, of course, comic books at this year's convention is how much of a girls show it is. We aren't talking about the influx of "Twilight" fans per se, but there's definitely been a move to be more girl-friendly at San Diego's famous convention. We aren't just talking about the fans, either. There are quite a few actresses attending this year that we never thought would grace the halls of the San Diego Convention Center.
ANGELINA JOLIE
Sure she did "Tomb Raider," but Angelina Jolie has covered a lot of ground between establishing herself as a nerd favorite and becoming a critical sweetheart. But since Sony is promoting "Salt" at Comic-Con, and Angelina is its headlining star, there was really no way that panel could have come together if she didn’t attend.
BLAKE LIVELY
Would Serena van der Woodsen ever approve of attending Comic-Con? Maybe if her boyfriend did, but she would never step through those doors. That's why we're so glad Blake Lively is nothing like her "Gossip Girl" counterpart, and will be promoting "Green Lantern" this Saturday.
VANESSA HUDGENS AND HER "SUCKER PUNCH" CO-STARS
"Sucker Punch" is perfect fodder for Comic-Con, but Vanessa Hudgens and her co-stars — like Emily Browning and Abbie Cornish — are not people we would expect to see gracing its stage. Still, if this earns Vanessa points from the Con crowd, next year's "Beastly" might find itself a wider audience.
TINA FEY
Come on, America! It’s Tina Fey! We love that she would come to Comic-Con to promote "Megamind," as well as the fact we love that her panel includes Will Ferrell and Jonah Hill. Bigger question: Where's Brad Pitt?
HELEN MIRREN
She's the freaking Queen. 'Nuff said.
Here are some honorable mentions of actresses who would have been surprising to see... if they hadn't already attended before.
Olivia Wilde: attended in 2009 for "Tron Legacy," attending in 2010 for "Tron Legacy."
Eva Mendes: attended in 2008 for "The Spirit," attending in 2010 for "The Other Guys."
Natalie Portman: attended in 2005 for "V for Vendetta," attending in 2010 for "Thor."
Anna Paquin: attended in 2008 and 2009 for "True Blood," attending in 2010 for "True Blood."
Anna Kendrick: attended in 2008 when "Twilight" debuted and was seen on the convention floor, attending in 2010 for "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."
Liv Tyler: attended in 2007 for "The Incredible Hulk," attending in 2010 for "Super."
Nina Dobrev: attended in 2009 for "Vampire Diaries," attending in 2010 for "Vampire Diaries."
Sigourney Weaver: attended in 2009 for "Avatar," attending in 2010 for "Paul."
Are you excited to see this array of actresses at Comic Con this year?
