For three years this girl’s portrayal of Alex Russo on the hit Disney Show “Wizards of Waverly Place” has kept us laughing and smiling as she tries to balance the life of a wizard and just a regular teen in New York City. But as the series comes to an end (only one more season!), this young actress is far from disappearing from the limelight. This Friday she makes her debut in theatres across the nation in “Ramona and Beezus," which is why this week’s Girl Crush is the lovely Selena Gomez.
The 17-year-old Texan (she turns 18 in two days!) began her acting career at age seven, starting with “Barney & Friends,” and later was discovered by Disney and started playing minor roles in “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody” and “Hannah Montana.” But Selena was able to break out on her own when she was cast in 2007 as one of the main characters in the popular “Wizards.” Her portrayal of Alex Russo won her two Kids Choice Awards for “Favorite TV Actress” and an Alma Award for “Actress in Television –Comedy.”
Since then she’s starred in “Another Cinderella Story,” which went straight to DVD, and movies such as “Princess Protection Plan” and “Wizards of Waverly Place: the Movie,” both of which were made for the Disney Channel.
But like many teen starlets her age, Selena is more than just actress! At 16, she signed a record deal with Hollywood Records, and formed a band called “Selena Gomez and The Scene,” dropping her first album last fall and will release her sophomore album this up-coming September. She’s also making her way into the fashion world, when her “Dream Out Loud” fashion line launches this fall.
And it doesn’t stop there! The beautiful teen also finds time to be the youngest ambassador for UNICEF’s Trick or Treat campaign!
If you can’t tell, we’re crushing hard on this gal, and now we get to see her face on the big screen this Friday in “Ramona and Beezus."
