Nothing can quite put a Hollywood couple on edge like one of their films booting the other's out of a release slot. Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron are still going strong, despite the studio decisions to move "Charlie St. Cloud" up from October to be released opposite "Beastly" on July 30, and its subsequent move from July to March 2011.
Still, its never easy for any couple to be in that situation, even though neither Zac nor Vanessa had any say in the matter. But, unfortunately, Zac was forced to rub some salt on Vanessa's wound, we found out from him at the "Charlie St. Cloud" junket.
"I actually had to break the news to her," Zac told MTV News. "I was like, 'I think we are moving on to your date.' She took it really well, but it's hard when that kind of stuff happens."
It sucks that "Beastly" was moved back to next year, but it seems like a better idea to have some space between the two projects instead of forcing audiences to choose. Though "Charlie St. Cloud" and "Beastly" are very different films, they are both stemming from the same "High School Musical" audience
"Hopefully it will work out for the best. 'Beastly' is a great movie, and when it does come out, people are absolutely going to love it," Zac said.
That diplomatic answer was similar to what Vanessa told MTV when they asked her about the move. "I just didn't feel right about us having movies coming out on the same day," she said. "It's just not right... I just don't think it's fair to either of us."
Are you glad that "Charlie St. Cloud" and "Beastly" have different release dates? Did you think it was right that Zac had to tell Vanessa the news?
