Last week's Comic-Con brought out not only the delightful and talented "True Blood" talent: Alan Ball, Joe Manganiello and Kristin Bauer, but also the woman behind it all, author Charlaine Harris.
When MTV News caught up with the charming and all-around adorable author at the Entertainment Weekly/SyFy party, we asked her how she had time to also inspire Alan's *other* show, "All Signs of Death."
(Note the surprise "cameo" by fabulous Denis O'Hare, who can be seen waiting patiently in the background of the video!)
"It was delightful to be able to be fairy godmother for such a worthy cause," Charlaine said. "Charlie Huston's been one of my favorite writers for a long time and when Alan told me he was going on vacation a couple of years ago, I couldn't think of anything to give him but books because that's what I love. So I sent him a box of my favorite books of the year and one of Charlie Huston's was among those."
We told her she should bug Alan for a finder's fee, which she found quite funny. (You deserve it though, Charlaine!) "No, my pleasure will be in seeing the wonderful show that will be made," she said.
Back to her Sookie Stackhouse novels and "True Blood," we had to ask: What Alan Ball-initiated departure from her books has she enjoyed the most?
"I'm so glad he left Lafeyette alive," Charlaine said. "Because Nelsan [Ellis] took that role and made it something completely wonderful and it's a joy to watch him in that role." We couldn't agree more!
Regarding the looming conclusion to her beloved Sookie Stackhouse series, Charlaine reaffirmed what she said in the panel: that she knows what the ending is, and that it will come somewhat soon. "I've been signed for a total of 13 books, I'm writing book 11, so if I don't end it with book 13, it'll be14 because I feel that coming on."
How do you hope to see the Sookie Stackhouse novels end? Do you agree that Nelsan Ellis has made Lafayette great?
