For the deepest Justin Bieber beliebers, the new VMA promo — warning that the Biebs “will induce hysteria” – isn’t telling them anything they don’t already know. But the 1950s themed teaser, starring the Best New Artist VMA nominee himself, is unique in drawing its inspiration from another hysteria-inducing pop act: The Beatles.
“I’m kind of like the Beatles running, and there’s girls chasing after me,” Justin told MTV News about the “Hard Day’s Night”-style TV spot.
Seeing as he gets chased, say, three to five times a day, acting skills were not required. “Everything’s been going pretty smooth,” Justin said of the shoot. “I like girls chasing me, so it’s good.”
After setting the bar for entertaining TV spots pretty high in May, with a Movie Awards promo alongside host Aziz Ansari and “Hurt Locker” star Jeremy Renner, Justin was more than ready for seconds. “Aziz was really fun to work with,” Justin reminisced. “It was really funny, and this is kind of more serious,” he explained, comparing the two.
In terms of the Biebs’ personal favorites, two artists in particular sit at the top of the pile. “All-time favorite moments of the VMAs? Probably when Eminem performed,” Justin recalled, when put on the spot about classic VMA spectacles. “I’m just a big Eminem fan, and I remember turning on the VMAs and seeing Eminem perform.”
As for the star who’s giving Bieber himself a fever, Justin explained his anticipation for Beyonce taking the stage. “I’d love to see Beyonce perform – because she’s so hot,” he grinned.
