With a bunch of vampire allies yet to be cast, and an October production date looming closer, we should be inundated with "Breaking Dawn" casting stories in the next couple of weeks. Last night brought the news that former "Lost" star Maggie Grace has been chosen to play Denali coven member Irina (a.k.a. the one who royally screws things up for Bella and her hubby), and today we have word from Entertainment Weekly that producers are thisclose to choosing young actress Mackenzie Foy to play superbaby Renesmee.
Judging from the photos on Mackenzie's website, she could definitely pass for a cross between a young K-Stew and a young R-Pattz. Fun fact: not only is little Mackenzie trained in ballet, tap and jazz, she's also got a purple belt in Taekwondo. That should come in handy when playing a super-strong vampire-human hybrid. So far, the actress has appeared on just two TV shows, but she's a veteran of plenty of commercials and print ads.
The 9-year-old will have some pretty crazy, ever-growing shoes to fill, since her character ages about 17 years in only seven. According to EW, a "Benjamin Button"-style effect could be used to superimpose Mackenzie's head on younger actresses' bodies. Now, before you freak out—since that does sound kinda crazy—if done properly, like in "Button," the effect could turn out to look fantastic. Then again, if it's like the low-budget body glitter they used for Edwards sparkle in "Twilight," then we might be in trouble.
How director Bill Condon is going to handle Renesmee is the second-biggest question on most of our minds when it comes to "Breaking Dawn." (The first, obviously, is the sex scene. Yup, all of our minds are collectively in the gutter. Deal with it.) Casting Mackenzie seems like a good choice—it's just a matter of how those special effects are going to turn out.
What do you think of Mackenzie's casting? Is she the right choice for Renesmee?
