It's just one big roller coaster of surprises, sexy times and singing in this week's episode of "Hellcats." We begin with Alice "secretly" videotaping the Hellcats biggest rival, the Cyclone cheer team, practice. I say "secretly" because she really just stood in front of the team filming and giggling to herself. That's some real Nancy Drew-caliber stuff right there.
Over at Hellcats practice, the team freaks out over the video and begins to stress that they will never be as a good as their fiercest competition. Coach Vanessa tells them to chill out and to concentrate on making their bid video the best it can be. We are treated to a super technical, crazy Hellcats routine before they break for the day. Marti tries to organize brunch at The Rat (the appetizingly named pub her mom works at), and Lewis uses the opportunity to ask Marti out on a date. Marti says no, prompting Lewis to throw up his "Oh, we're cool!" attitude.
Wanda is all a flutter because she has the chance to move from bar-back to bar manager if she wins a competition among the bar backs. Whoever can generate the most money for the pub during the week gets the position. Wanda's big idea? An open mic night! I see dollar signs! Marti volunteers to help—out of guilt? Turns out Wanda left a cushy office job to bar back at The Rat so Marti could get a free ride at Lancer. Okay...soooo if she gets a free ride from her mom working at a campus bar, why doe she need a cheerleading scholarship? But we don't have time ponder those calculations because Savannah gets caught kissing!
Yep, while Marti and her mom discussed open mic night, Savannah has a secular brunch date with Dan. Of course her parents and sister walk by just as Dan leans over the table for a full on lip-lock. Awkward, especially when Savannah introduces Dan as her boyfriend, who is so not comfortable with that label, though he accepts a family dinner invite anyway.
Wanda notices the tension between Lewis and Marti, and when Marti divulges that she turned down a date, Wanda says it's time to get back in the game. Apparently two years ago Marti had a serious bf named Aaron and hasn't bounced back. Why do I have a feeling Aaron will suddenly pop up in a future episode to mess up a blossoming relationship between Dan and Marti or Marti and Lewis??
Still smarting from Marti's rejection, Lewis lets things get a little out of hand while practicing with Alice. (What guy isn't going to crumble under the skimpy dressed, sweaty, hot ex-girlfriend trying to get with him pressure?) Yep, they do it…right there on the two-inch foam practice mats! Impeccable timing for sure, as Marti later tells Lewis she wants to go out with him. Oh the guilt. Lewis' mouth says "Yes" but his face says, "Oh fudge, what a pickle I'm in!"
Dinner at Savannah's is going swimmingly. In fact, Dan is charming the pants off her parents...or not. In a move Emily Post would never approve of, her folks lay down a ridiculous ultimatum: dump Dan or leave Lancer (and the family). Savannah goes for the guy. When Dan tells Savannah he's honored to be part of that kind of situation (weird!), Savannah turns the tables and says it wasn't really about him and that they are just casual. Now it's Dan who doesn't like how that sounds.
The bickering won't stop between Marti and her mom, so Marti walks out on Wanda and tells her she isn't helping out with open mic night. Dan finally comes to his senses and decides to talk to Savannah about what's bugging him. The dam breaks on Savannah's act, and she tells Dan that she can't be casual; it's all or nothing. Dan surprises her by agreeing to be exclusive but says he can't promise he'll be successful at monogamy—just what I want to hear from a guy I'm walking out on my family for.
Back at The Rat, Wanda has packed the bar with a performance by Hey Monday. Marti is impressed and apologizes for not believing in her mom. Lewis kinda kills the happy vibes by telling Marti he's not over Alice. Marti brushes it off and takes it as a good sign that she can trust Lewis as she takes the stage to sing a cover of Sting's "Brand New Day."
No doubt the girl has got it. Marti kills it and has the whole bar cheering and dancing. No dramatic endings, no pill popping or fights, just a mild close to an emotionally charged episode.
What did you think of last night's "Hellcats"? Are you happy Savannah and Dan are now official? Where do you think the Marti-Lewis relationship will go?
