In case you missed one of the major themes of this week's Hollywood Crush articles, we are definitely encouraging you to take your hard-earned $10 and go see "The Social Network" this weekend. Seriously, it's that good. Plus, why would you ever doubt any movie that has a half-naked Justin Timberlake and double the Armie Hammer? You wouldn't.
But if you were at all worried about the potentially fictious elements contained in the film, this latest "Social Network" update should relieve those fears. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin certainly did plenty of research about the legal cases the film follows, but he also had a secret source to give him insight into what really went on at Harvard during that time: Natalie Portman.
"Natalie Portman got in touch with me when she heard that I was doing this to say, 'Listen…come over for dinner and I'll tell you some stories'," he reportedly told Harvard students at a sneak screening last week. "I would've come over for dinner under any circumstances. But that was really helpful."
That's probably the reason why Natalie got a nod in the film's script, when one of the characters mentions that Mark Zuckerberg is the hottest thing to come out of a university that produced Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prizer winners, future Olympians (the Winklevosses!), and a movie star. Of course, Natalie Portman was a movie star before she went to Harvard, but that's beside the point.
Unfortunately, Natalie was at Harvard from 1999 to 2003, so she just missed being at the university when Mark launched Facebook. Still, she did date a member of the school's Porcellian Club—one of the school's famous final clubs—which was the elite club that Mark so wanted to get accepted into (at least in the film's version of the story). The Winklevosses and Divya Narendra (Max Minghella) were both members of the Porcellian Club, so it is thanks to Natalie that "The Social Network"'s depiction of the club is more or less accurate.
