Spike Scream Awards' 7 Best Moments: 'True Blood' Wins, 'Scream 4' Trailer Debuts And More!

Posted 10/20/10 9:55 am EST by Terri Schwartz in TV Recaps

The 2010 Spike Scream Awards are certainly one of the most fun awards shows on television—where else are genre nerds celebrated with such abandon? So it was unsurprising that instead of "Breaking Dawn" or "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," fans voted for "Green Lantern" as their most anticipated film ("It's a hell of a lot more gratifying than winning the 'Who Gives A F--k' award," Ryan Reynolds joked).

In that spirit, some of the surprise letdowns of the show were the uninspired acceptance speeches for the two "Twilight Saga" wins, first for Kristen Stewart as Best Fantasy Actress and then for "Eclipse" as Best Fantasy Film, and then with the much-hyped "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" exclusive clip, which really didn't give us much new footage. But there were plenty of surprise pick-me-ups in the show, like the "True Blood" sweep, a Sigourney Weaver appreciation and Rainn Wilson making fun of "Life As We Know It." If you missed the show last night, here's a recap of some of our favorite moments.

Rainn Wilson making fun of "Life As We Know It"
We love Rainn Wilson for many reasons, but tonight it was because he managed to introduce his awesome "Super" clip (which we saw at Comic-Con) and make fun of "Life As We Know It" within a three-minute span. Apparently, sitting through 15 minutes of the film caused him to go up to the projectionist in his theater and rip his throat out with a corkscrew. Okay, we know it didn't really happen, but the movie certainly made us feel similar sentiments, so we'll forgive him for embellishing.

"True Blood" wins for Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin
Can vampire Bill please magically adopt the adorable haircut that Stephen Moyer was sporting at tonight's Scream Awards? Because I would argue that he (heresy!) even outshone Alexander Skarsgård on the adorable scale. He won his award for that crazy sex scene Bill and Lorena had during season three. You know the one I'm talking about. "I don't know what all the fuss is about, doesn't everyone have sex like that?" he joked. Anna Paquin had a sexy lead-in in the form of Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder. "I love our fans so much," Anna said. "'True Blood' is the best job I've ever gotten to work on, and it would be nothing without being able to be supported by the amazing fans we have." Oh, and then the camera cut to ASkars. This is why we love the Scream Awards.

"Scream 4" trailer premiere
Yes, this "Scream 4" footage had already leaked, but if you—like me—saved yourself for the Scream Awards tonight, then you considered it a treat to get to see the trailer for the first time being presented by Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Emma Roberts and Wes Craven. And, though most of you probably all know this already, the trailer also gave us our first glimpses at Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell and Lucy Hale and Shenae Grimes in the flick!

Sigourney Weaver Scream Heroine Appreciation
The woman can walk out of a giant alien egg at age 61 and still look sexy as hell. As she well deserved, Sigourney Weaver was awarded a Scream Awards heroine appreciation trophy for her general amazingness in genre films over the past several decades. "I am so thrilled to be here tonight with all of you. You're f--king awesome," she told the audience. "I have to confess that when I heard I won this, I did scream...This was the highlight of my life. I was reborn."

Alexander Skarsgård's win for Best Horror Actor
Why does Alexander Skarsgård get his own category on this list? Because we're madly in love with him, clearly. While Alexander accepted his award, he told the story of two kids he ran into outside who were really pissed off that he was in the Best Actor category after being in the Best Villain category last year. "Yes I did slaughter half a dozen werewolves this year, I did push a lot of illegal drugs—a lot of illegal drugs—and I madeout with a really handsome Greek guy, and then I staked him through the back. Oh, and then I had a really innocent girl in the basement for a while," he laughed. "But other than that, I think Eric was a really good boy this year, so thank you." We'll just toss "True Blood" winning Best TV Show in with this too.

Final farewell to "Lost"
I love how Jimmy Kimmel has become the official spokesperson for "Lost" over the past six years of the show's life. He was introduced by the announcers as a man having all the body hair of a werewolf, with none of the distracting abs. Want to know what was distracting? Having Henry Ian Cusick and Ian Somerhalder together on the same stage. And so what if I teared up a bit at the montage from the show's past seasons? It's been a long six seasons! Jorge Garcia was the star to thank the audience, and he said it best when he dissed the Emmys by saying, "Hey, it's really great to be at an awards show that loves us," and, referencing their award in the shape of a spike, said, "Thank you Spike for this final proverbial nail in the coffin on this show." Feel free to weep openly now.

"Zombieland" wins for Best Horror Movie
Finally, "Zombieland" got some love at the Scream Awards, and with Best Horror Movie no less! This prompted the much-talked-about appearance by Bill Murray dressed in Ghostbusters gear to accept the award, and he was greeted by a standing ovation and another win for Best Cameo. "I'm sorry, I don't mean anything by this, it was just the only thing left that was clean," Bill teased about wearing the "Ghostbusters" outfit. In thanks he said, "You people who are basically stone-cold dead most every second of every day of your life but who against all odds come back to life when we need you the most, thank you." But we liked the sighting of Bill and Sigourney Weaver backstage even better than his dramatic acceptance speech.

Did you watch the Scream Awards? What were some of your favorite moments?
