Thanks to sophomore English class, the phrase "the ides of March" always makes us think of poor Julius Caesar rolling around on the Senate floor in a blood-soaked (not to mention highly unflattering) toga. Yuck. But now, thanks to the movie biz, we'll be able to associate the ides of March with something much more appetizing—something like, say, George Clooney and Ryan Gosling! According to Variety, George has signed on to direct and star in "The Ides of March," a political thriller based on the play "Farragut North."
The film features George as a candidate for the Democratic presidential ticket, with Ryan starring as a press spokesman—a role played onstage by the equally delicious Chris Pine. (Rumor has it that Chris was in the running for this role as well, so there must be something about the script that attracts ridiculously good-looking dudes.) The cast also reunites Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood, who last worked together on "The Wrestler," playing (respectively) a reporter for the New York Times and a seductive campaign intern.
Shooting will begin early next year in Michigan and Ohio. Meanwhile, we're just sorry that a presidential campaign involving two of Hollywood's most desirable leading men isn't a real thing; even the swing states wouldn't be able to resist casting a vote for the Party of Ridiculous Hotness.
