Are you there, vodka? Chelsea Handler's horizontal life is about to become a sitcom on NBC, so clearly you must have been looking out for her. The comedy will be based on Chelsea's three best-sellers: "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands," "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" and "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang." If you don't know too much about this year's VMAs host, Chelsea's memoirs are comprised of hilarious essays about her unbelievable exploits which, in our opinion, are perfect sitcom fodder.
Deadline was the first to report that NBC ordered a pilot for "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea," but no casting news has been issued yet. The series follows a character named Chelsea, who is in her 20s and has similar traits to her real-life influence, but won't be a comedian or writer. Chelsea has a unique personality we've come to know and love, so the show's creators need to cast a leading lady that can appropriately capture her raunchy sex appeal. Fortunately for them, we have a few recommendations.
Forget the gothy Thora Birch of decades past! The "American Beauty" and "Ghost World" star has faded off into indie and Lifetime movie oblivion over the past decade and transformed into a 28-year-old gorgeous blond bombshell, who just so happens to look exactly like a young Chelsea Handler. Though Thora has mostly done dramatic films, she has a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor that would lend itself perfectly to this sitcom.
Though most of her experience has been in horror films, we've come to adore Katie Cassidy's cool persona thanks to roles on The CW series "Melrose Place" and "Gossip Girl." With all that sass, she is clearly ready to get her hands dirty in awkward and humorous romantic situations. We're can't wait to see this 24-year-old actress take back the small screen in a big way!
Okay, we'll admit it, Chris Rock did this sleuthing for us. But let's face it: Elizabeth Banks and Chelsea Handler look exactly alike! Add that to the fact that Elizabeth is hilarious (albeit, a little too old for the role), and she is our No. 1 choice to star as Chelsea!
Are you looking forward to a sitcom based on Chelsea's life? Who do you think should play the lead character?
