Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, leading couple of "Glee," have always energetically denied that there's anything other than a purely-platonic vibe between them. Well, okay, but they do look awfully comfy canoodling between the pages of this month's Teen Vogue—and between that and the adorable, finishing-each-other's-sentences jiving in their joint interview, we just can't help ourselves. We're totally rooting for a romance between them.
Of course, the pair say that they're used to it—in fact, the whole cast has been plagued by rampant speculation as to who's dating who, leading Lea and Cory to bait the gossip-hungry masses with the idea of a cast-wide orgy.
"Oh, we’ve all gotten down and dirty. It’s, like, nasty. We can’t keep our hands off each other," Lea says. "It’s borderline disgusting," Cory adds.
Really? Tell us more! But alas, Lea admits the truth: "No, I hate to be boring, but we’re just friends." Although for the gossip hounds among us, she does throw out a minor bone by adding, "I think Mark [Sailing] and Naya [Rivera] dated for a little while."
To hear them tell it, the rush of celebrity has been quite a surprise—as was the news that they'd been cast in the show at all. Lea had actually planned on sticking strictly to Broadway, where she first starred in the musical "Spring Awakening," before the part of Rachel Berry drew her to an audition in LA. As for Cory...well, let's just say that his earlier projects bear little resemblance to his current star turn.
"I was running around the woods in wolf contacts, covered in fake blood made out of pancake syrup, roaring," he says, explaining that his prior acting in sci-fi movies included some unusual requirements. (Whatever, sounds like a typical Saturday to us.)
As for Lea and Cory's relationship, even we have to admit that the two come off here as casual besties, not a hot-and-heavy couple. Asked if it's weird to play a boyfriend-girlfriend pair on the show, Lea scoffs that there's not even a, um, whiff of romance between them.
"We’re such good friends that we’ve passed that level of weirdness," she says. "Cory farts in front of me."
But that's just what she says—are you still hoping for "Glee" romance?
