It looks like Natalie Portman had so much fun filming her friends with benefits romantic comedy "No Strings Attached," that she decided to write her own version. The Los Angeles Times blog 24 Frames announced that Natalie and her college friend Laura Moses wrote a script about two twenty-something women who decide to throw a bring-your-own party, except instead of bringing alcohol or cookies, the attendees are supposed to bring their own eligible bachelor.
Natalie is set to star as one of the leads in the film, called "BYO" (for Bring Your Own, obvi), and 24 Frames is reporting that Anne Hathaway is interested in starring as the other. While we're psyched about the idea of those two ladies starring in a film together, we're even more excited about the idea of Natalie transitioning from an actress to a screenwriter. It got us thinking about our other favorite ladies in Hollywood who act and screen-write.
Tina Fey
Who is a hotter comedic writer in Hollywood right now than Tina Fey? She's won numerous Emmys for both her writing and acting on "30 Rock" and "Saturday Night Live," but Tina really earned our love and respect as a movie screenwriter with 2004's "Mean Girls." We're anxiously awaiting whatever she comes up with next—and hope she stars in it too.
Nia Vardalos
Nia Vardalos exploded into Hollywood in 2002 with the surprise hit she wrote and starred in, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Made with unknown stars, a $5 million budget and limited marketing, the film went on to make over $369 million worldwide. Nia has since starred in and written several more films including this past year's "I Hate Valentine's Day," but we're most excited for her writing team-up with Tom Hanks in 2011's "Larry Crowne."
Mindy Kaling
You probably know Mindy Kaling best as "Twilight"-obsessed Kelly Kapoor on "The Office," but did you also know she's one of the sitcom's writers too? In addition to penning some of our favorite "Office" eps (hello, Jim and Pam's wedding!), Mindy teamed with "Office" co-writer Brent Forrester for the screenplay "The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie," which will likely debut some time in 2011. In the meantime, you've gotta check out her hilarious Twitter feed (a Tweet Dreams fave!).
Nikki Reed
Nikki Reed was only 14 when she co-wrote the screenplay for "Thirteen" with director Catherine Hardwicke, but it was definitely one of the best scripts to come out of 2003. She has stuck to acting since she hit it big in 2008's "Twilight," but we're hoping Nikki has another great script in her somewhere. I'm sure many fans out there would love for her to write a semi-autobiographical tale about her time with "The Twilight Saga."
Lena Dunham
You might not be too familiar with Lena Dunham's work, but you should because MTV Movies Blog and Judd Apatow think she's going to be the next big thing. She's written, directed and starred in five of her own films so far and caught Judd's attention with her tragicomedy "Tiny Furniture." In fact, he liked it so much that the two are working together on an HBO pilot that she will write, direct and star in. All that by age 24!
