When John Hughes died unexpectedly in the summer of 2009, movie buffs honored his memory by waxing nostalgic about his '80s, coming-of-age tales like "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." And while I too adore those films, I was too young to appreciate firsthand the glory days of the Brat Pack. My movie-going experience began later, when Demi Moore had moved on to spinning clay with Patrick Swayze and Emilio Estevez was coaching Pacey Witter's rag-tag hockey team. No, the John Hughes flick that will always resonate most with me is the classic Christmas caper flick "Home Alone," which opened 20 years ago this week.

I was 8 years old when the movie hit theaters in 1990—the same age as precocious protagonist Kevin McCallister, played by blond moppet Macaulay Culkin. So many elements of this film thrilled me, not least of which were the intricate contraptions Hughes dreamed up as punishment for the bumbling burglars who tried to rob Kevin's house while his family was away on Christmas vacation in France. (We get a sneak peek of Hughes' imaginative Rube Goldberg gizmos in "Ferris Bueller." Remember his voice machine?) Anyway, I loved not only the character of Kevin—a brave, young, quasi-vigilante who spoke his mind and didn't let grown-ups push him around—but also Macaulay, who really was the cat's pajamas. I think my tween self had our entire wedding planned out, down to the "Little Mermaid" dinnerware and Scooby Doo tablecloths.

From Whitney Port to Brandy, the stars hit up the red carpet last night for the US Hot Hollywood Party in Los Angeles. Most starlets arrived in short dresses, with the style on the carpet fairly eclectic and overwhelmingly disappointing. We were expecting fashion forward, but what we got were mostly underwhelming (or, in some cases, over-the-top) looks. Keep reading to see which celebs were hot and which were not.

When you hit the red carpet in a dress made out of garbage bags, you can really only go up from there. While we didn't love Ke$ha's silver number, we can't help but acknowledge that it was a major improvement from some of her recent looks. Sure, the hair is um...a little out there, but hey, one step at a time, right? Joining Ke$ha on the carpet was fellow blond, Whitney Port. Whit was definitely one of our favorites of the night in a short, floral, long-sleeved dress, which she paired with a super-cute pair of booties.

As you've probably heard by now (or seen if you went to a midnight or 3 a.m. showing last night), "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" features the most intense make-out scene of the series between—surprise, surprise—Harry Potter and his BFF Hermione Granger. We won't ruin too many of the details surrounding the kiss, but let's just say all you fans hoping this means Harry and Hermione end up together in the end won't exactly be getting your way.

It wasn't until the day before Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson were supposed to shoot the scene that they found out that they would be filmed mostly naked (Emma got a strapless bra) and painted silver to heighten the intensity of the scene. "It was kind of weird. It is a bit like kissing your sister. But, you know, I don't have a sister, so that's why I can say that and I'm not creeped out by it," Dan told MTV News with a laugh.

Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal are ridiculously hot. And for this week's Entertainment Weekly cover, they're ridiculously naked. In fact, they are so hot and so naked that the editors couldn't decide on just one photo from their shirtless shoot to grace the cover; instead, they issued three different versions in order to bestow the maximum possible dosage of hot nakedness on the reading public.

And let's just say that the reading public is not complaining.

Anne and Jake shed their clothes to promote the release of their upcoming movie, "Love and Other Drugs," in which they'll be playing a sexually adventurous couple who are surprised to find themselves falling in love. And in a three-way interview with director Edward Zwick, the pair dish on connecting as friends, preparing for those steamy scenes and what kind of tape works best for covering up wayward naughty bits.

Step aside, "High School Musical," there's a new high school movie in town inspired by the one event we all know and love…"Prom."

Disney’s latest venture, due out April 2011, follows nine high school seniors, who are all trying to make the best of their one big night. Producers have cast a whole new set of mostly unknown actors to play the roles of the classic high school characters (i.e. archetypes) we've seen in so many movies over the years, like "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club."

Harry Shum Jr.If you were thrilled with the "Thriller" news from earlier today, this bit of "Glee" scoop should have you dancing with delight. E! Online reports that Harry Shum Jr., or as he's known to Gleeks, Mike "The Other Asian" Chang, is being bumped up from guest star to series regular on the show as of next season.

Harry, who is best known for his crazy-good dance skills (he's also a member of the dance group The LXD, which joined the "Glee" cast on their tour earlier this year), has scored some major numbers on the show this season, including "Dream A Little Dream" and "Sing" with Jenna Ushkowitz (who plays his love interest Tina Cohen-Chang), as well as this week's rendition of "Make 'Em Laugh" from "Singin' in the Rain" with Matthew Morrison.

If you're totally crushed that "The Vampire Diaries" isn't airing a new episode tonight, don't despair, because we've got you covered. You see, we figured this mini-break from our favorite show was the perfect opportunity to take a step back and look at this season's best moments, focusing on the top five most romantic, because no one does smoldering looks and heartfelt confessions better than the cast of "TVD."

5. Katherine Confesses Her Love For Stefan ("Memory Lane")
Romance and Katherine don't exactly go hand in hand, but we couldn't help but be a little affected when she confessed that it was always Stefan who had her heart (sorry, Damon). To top it all off, she made it clear that compulsion had nothin' to do with the feelings between the two.

4. Caroline Tells Tyler She's A Vampire ("Rose")
We can't help it, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) have the cutest chemistry ever. While their "friendship" hasn't yet sparked into a romance, they're definitely headed down that road. It was solidified when Caroline ignored Damon's warnings and admitted to Tyler that she was a vampire so that he wouldn't feel so alone and confused. We're expecting many more truly romantic moments from these two to come.

3. Elena Breaks Up With Stefan ("Plan B")
Okay, so we know breaking up isn't exactly romantic, but the scene in which Elena (Nina Dobrev) tells Stefan (Paul Wesley) "it's over" was filled with so much raw emotion that it was romantic. Seriously, we found ourselves holding back tears, which worked out because Stefan cried enough for all of us!
