Chris Colfer was just struck by romantic lightning on "Glee," but now he's ready to be "Struck by Lightning" on the big screen. Variety has the news that Chris is ready to make his big-screen debut in the film, headed by "Youth in Revolt" producer David Permut.
In addition to starring in the flick, Chris also wrote the script for "Struck by Lightning." David describes the script as capturing "the spirit of movies penned by the late John Hughes." Apparently he and Chris are looking to find a director and shoot the film during "Glee"'s summer hiatus.
There's no news on what the plot is about, but Variety describes it (unsurprisingly) as an indie coming-of-age comedy. By comparing "Struck by Lightning" with John Hughes flicks, it sounds like Chris won't be heading far from high school.
Anyone who's seen "Glee" knows that Chris is a talented actor (he didn't get that Emmy nomination for nothing), but it's exciting to find out that he's into writing as well. It will be interesting to find out if "Struck by Lightning" is autobiographical in any way, especially since gay bullying is a very important topic to Chris.
Chris isn't the first "Glee" star to be making the jump to the big screen. Cory Monteith filmed the romantic comedy "Monte Carlo" over the summer, Dianna Agron will be hitting theaters soon in "I Am Number Four" and Lea Michele is preparing to celebrate the holidays in the "Valentine's Day" follow-up, "New Year's Eve."
