Leighton Meester has been a bona fide fashion queen ever since her first appearance on "Gossip Girl," when she singlehandedly began the Great Headband Resurgence of 2007. But in an interview with MTV News, Leighton said that public reaction is the one thing she doesn't think about when she gets dressed in the morning.
"I've let any of that go, to be honest with you," she said, after being asked about pressures associated with her style icon status.
But that doesn't mean we'll be seeing the actress, who took on a big-screen role in the film "Country Strong" during "GG"'s off-season, wearing a burlap sack to the premiere. Instead, she's found a personal style that works—which, according to Leighton, is the secret to fashion contentment.
"I'm definitely not gonna go off the deep end and be like, 'I don't care at all!' and just go crazy," she explained. "But I think, as with anything—including music, and everything else—it has to be what makes you happy and what speaks to you. Even if less people like it, it doesn't matter as long as you like it. And you will be happy in the end."
Yeah! You hear that, coworkers? It's about personal satisfaction! So why don't you chew on that the next time you want to make a nasty comment about my awesome, rhinestone-encrusted, yellow vinyl catsuit. AND MATCHING FEATHERED HAT.
Could Leighton's free-spirited approach to fashion work for you too? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
