Just how badly are actresses in Hollywood dying to play the role of Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming adaptation of "The Hunger Games"? Well, apparently "Gulliver's Travels" star Emily Blunt is contemplating a facelift to convince director Gary Ross that she could look young enough to play the part.
"Well, I could do it," she said, faux serious. "[Katniss is] supposed to be like 16. Maybe I'll go in for a quick facelift. I'll turn up for my meeting with Garry Ross and be like [pulls the skin on her face tight], 'Can I please have this part?'"
Casting won't start until early 2011, so Emily still has some time to get a fast plastic surgery job. Turns out that her dedication to the role stems from her love of the source material. The 27-year-old wife of "The Office" dreamboat John Krasinski has apparently been reading the first book in Suzanne Collins' series and was talking about it before her interview with MTV New's Josh Horowitz took place.
She made sure Josh, who's already finished "The Hunger Games," didn't spoil anything for her. "I'm two thirds of the way through and kind of riveted by it and terrified by it at the same time," she said. "I can't stop reading it."
While we'd support Malese Jow, Hailee Steinfeld or Danielle Churchran getting the role before Emily (sorry!), there are still plenty of other roles in the film for the 27-year-old Brit.
I'll be the first to say she would be the perfect actress to play Effie Trinket, but I'd also argue that she could even play Katniss' mother. She certainly has the right coloring for it. But I love that "Hunger Games" fever has spread throughout Hollywood and across the pond so definitively. Can we get an official release date yet?
