Here's a sure sign that the apocalypse is coming "The Twilight Saga" is coming to a close: Robert Pattinson has booked his first major role for after "Breaking Dawn" wraps filming. According to Deadline, he'll be starring in director David Cronenberg's latest, "Cosmopolis," based on the Don DeLillo novel of the same name. Let's just say the role is a bit of a departure from "Twilight" and "Water for Elephants."
Rob will play Eric Packer, a financial wunderkind who risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on one tumultuous day. His decision puts him in threat of assassination, and much of the film is set in the limousine that transports Eric from one location to the next. The drama is a study of capitalism and is set in a somewhat futuristic metropolis.
Apparently Marion Cotillard and Paul Giamatti are also potentially involved in the film, which will make "Cosmopolis" without a doubt the best role choice of our favorite sparkly vampire's career to date. It's obvious that Rob is making calculated decisions regarding his post-"Twilight" projects, choosing more mature parts to prove himself as a great actor instead of just a heartthrob.
We'll be seeing Rob tonight at the People's Choice Awards, and he'll also present at the Golden Globes on January 14. And though it's not confirmed or anything, we still think that Rob's continued appearances at prestigious awards shows (we'll place our bets that he'll be at the Oscars) are an effort to woo skeptics into giving him a chance as a serious, non-blood sucking actor. With "Cosmopolis" and the upcoming "Water for Elephants," we think he actually has a chance.
