Are you sitting down "Mortal Instruments" fans? We have big news! The powers that be over at Screen Gems—the studio adapting Cassandra Clare's best-selling YA series—must have read our missive requesting (scratch that, pleading) that hunky Brit Alex Pettyfer be cast as the series' sarcastic dreamboat Jace Wayland, because Vulture is reporting that the "I Am Number Four" star has been offered the role.
Please excuse us while we run to the supply closet to scream our lungs out in ecstasy.
That's better. Okay, back to the task at hand. According to an insider Vulture spoke with, negotiations are to begin later this week (which we're assuming means tomorrow since, um, it is Thursday, after all) with an announcement to be made as early as next week.
There's no denying this tidbit is a relief for the bajillions of fans dying to see Alex wear the runes, but the news also came with a troubling addendum. Vulture's source added that Screen Gems chief Clint Culpepper feels so strongly about Alex in this role that if the 20-year-old does not sign on, "City of Bones" (the series' first installment) might not get made at all. Nooooooo! With Alex's busy schedule (he recently added race-car thriller "Shunt: The Story of James Hunt" to his schedule), there's a possibility the actor may just not have the time to play our favorite Shadowhunter.
Now, I'm as big of a proponent for Alex playing Jace as the next fangirl, but I would much rather see a suitable substitute found than nix the film altogether. I mean, there has to be more than one capable, attractive young blond actor in Hollywood who can play opposite Lily Collins, right?

Are you excited that Alex has been offered the role? Would you rather a movie not be made at all if Alex can't play Jace?
