Sundance Film Festival Preview: 6 Films We're Looking Forward To

Posted 1/20/11 5:30 pm EST by Nuzhat Naoreen in Movie News, Movies

With the Sundance Film Festival officially kicking-off today, a big chunk of our MTV News team has packed their bags and shipped off to Park City, Utah, to bring you scoops straight from the slopes, er, stars. Of course, with more than 200 films showing at the event, it can often be tricky to find the hidden gems (a.k.a. "Little Miss Sunshine"). That's where we come in.

To help you navigate the sheer number of movies, we parsed through the listings to find the six that are definitely worth keeping on the radar. Check out our list after the jump!

1. "My Idiot Brother"
The trailer for this movie isn't out yet, but you don't need to see much more than Paul Rudd's bearded face to know that it'll be full of hilarity. Besides an all-star cast (which includes Paul, Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer and Zooey Deschanel), the plot for the movie, which has Paul as an organic farmer who goes off to live with his three (very different) sisters after getting arrested, has all the makings of a promising comedy.

2. "The Details"
Now, we're used to seeing movies where couples band together against an unruly neighbor or house guest, but "The Details," starring Elizabeth Banks (again!) and Tobey Maguire seems to take that concept to a whole different level. In the flick, Elizabeth and Tobey play a couple who discover a raccoon infestation in their backyard, only to end up clashing about how to fix it. Their disagreements lead to another slew of problems that result in "infidelity, organ donation and murder by way of bow and arrow." Um, whatever happened to calling the exterminator?

3. "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold"
"Super Size Me" director Morgan Spurlock is back at it with his new documentary, which delves into the world of advertising and product placement. Considering how much both of those elements impact our daily lives, we're curious to see what he has to say about them.

4. "Fight For Your Right Revisited"
What do you get when you take the history of the Beastie Boys and combine it with stars like Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood, and Danny McBride? Awesomeness, obviously. While details on the actual plot are still sparse, we have high hopes for this short, which according to MTV Movies Blog will feature cameos from Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and Jack Black.

5. "Vampire"
From "Twilight" to "True Blood," we just can't get enough of bloodsuckers, which is all the more reason to include "Vampire" on our list of Sundance movies to watch for. The flick stars Kevin Zegers (you might recognize him from "Gossip Girl"!), who plays a teacher/vampire who scours the Internet for suicidal girls to get his blood fix (uh, guess he's not quite as noble as Edward).

6. "Homework"
This coming-of-age flick starring Freddie Highmore, Emma Roberts, Michael Angarano, Elizabeth Reaser and Alicia Silverstone, centers around George, a lonely senior in high school who has somehow gotten away with never completing his...you guessed it...homework! The story goes deeper, though, as George gets a friend (Emma) and a mentor (Michael) who slowly help him break out of his shell. As fans of angsty teen flicks, we're definitely eager to see how this movie progresses. Watch an exclusive clip to find out more.

Check out the entire Sundance Film Festival lineup, and stay tuned for lots of scoops and goodies from our team in Park City!
