We'll be the first to admit our little fangirl hearts went "Squeeeeeee!" yesterday when news broke that 20-year-old actor Alex Pettyfer had been offered the role of Jace Wayland in Screen Gem's adaptation of "City of Bones," the first installment of Cassandra Clare's popular YA series "The Mortal Instruments." But with no official announcement expected until next week (at the earliest), we were left wishin' and hopin' and bitin' our nails with little else to go on.
Thankfully, Cassandra allayed a bit of our anxiety late last night with an update posted to her blog. And it's all quite encouraging. Here are the highlights:
1. Alex has met several times with director Scott Stewart
2. He's screened Scott's soon-to-be released "Priest" and "loved it"
3. Alex read "The Mortal Instruments" series over the holidays, liked them and the character Jace
4. His reps are negotiating a deal with the studio.
And in Cassandra's words, "At this point it's all about the deal." Here's hoping negotiations go well because we know more than a few "TMI" fans who would be crushed if Alex doesn't become a Shadowhunter.
