"Hellcats" was back last night after an almost two-month hiatus and yes, we were stoked. When we last left off, the team was on the bus to sectionals. Savannah's heart was broken, Marti was the pariah of the team and her relationship with Lewis was unsalvageable. I mean, Marti DID hook up with Dan, she tried to cover it up and didn't put forth the best attempt at an apology.
Last night's episode picked up as the team arrives at sectionals. Marti can't find one person on the team who will talk to her. Not only is she friendless, but her luggage breaks, spilling her clothes all over the ground. Lewis takes pity and helps her, but makes it clear any communication between them is strictly professional. Marti takes what she can get and proceeds to sectionals practice. Beggars can't be choosers, right?
Alice's dad, Michael (Mario Van Peebles), unexpectedly shows up with is fiance, Kelly. Turns out, Alice never told her dad that she and Lewis broke up or that she is an alternate flyer. Apparently, Alice comes from a family that favors the accomplishments of her football-playing brother. Admitting she was an alternate and telling her dad that she and Lewis were broken up would tarnish the perfect image her father has of her. Now we know why Alice is so needy and desperate for attention and glory…she has daddy issues.
Alice tries to finagle her way into a flying position by showing off her ability to do the routine at practice. She bribes a random teammate with a leather jacket to suggest, in front of the whole team, that Alice take over Marti's flying position. At first, Alice's plan works and Savannah kicks Marti to the sidelines. Savannah IS team captain, after all, and she did lose her boyfriend over his feelings for Marti. Payback's a biatch, but that only lasts until Coach Vanessa shows up suggesting a cheer off between Marti and Alice to determine who deserves to be flipped and twirled in the air.
After a shaky cheer off on Alice's part, Marti reclaims her flying position leaving Alice to devise yet another plan to get what she wants. What does she do? She turns to blackmail! She shows up to Savannah's room demanding she take over Savannah's flying position. When Savannah refuses, Alice whips out her laptop, shows the video of Savannah cheering in her sister's place on the Cyclones squad (which happens to be the Hellcats biggest rival) and suddenly Savannah has an injured ankle and asks Alice in front of the entire team to take over her flying position. Jeeeez!
While Savannah is holed up in her room with a fake bum ankle, Marti shows up to have a heart-to-heart. Savannah responds by hitting Marti with a pillow and a pillow fight ensues. How cute. It breaks the ice between them, Marti apologizes and the two are back to being friends. Marti realizes Savannah was just jumping around on the bed during the pillow fight, calls her out on the fake bum ankle and Savannah tells Marti everything that's going on.
It's the day of the meet and Marti takes pity on Savannah who looks beyond miserable and gives her flying position to Savannah. So Marti is out, Alice is in and somehow the team believes Savannah had a miraculous recovery. Of course, this is a very important meet as it will determine whether the Hellcats go to nationals. They pull off a spectacular performance, of course. When the scores are announced, the Hellcats win by .5 points, of course.
The best part is that after all the stuff Alice did to cover up her lies and impress her dad, he didn't show up because her brother's football game ran late! Ouch. His fiance Kelly saw the Hellcats kill it, which was sweet and she does her best to console Alice. It isn't enough for Alice, though, and when her dad shows up at the hotel with flowers and a charming smile to apologize, she chews him out, tells him the truth about her and Lewis, which in turn, makes him feel like a terrible dad. Alice has a certain charm doesn't she? The team heads back to Lancer leaving us waiting 6 long days until next week. Torture.
Did you watch last night's "Hellcats"? Did you feel sorry for Alice (or do you still think she's terrible)? When do you think Dan will return? Can Marti and Lewis ever patch things up? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
