The fashions from tonight's SAG Awards red carpet were wonderfully unpredictable. Sure, strapless gowns and understated jewelry continued to be hot trends, but the general mood among Hollywood's young elite was decidedly sexier than usual. Between Hailee Steinfeld's bold stripes and Naya Rivera's bare back, the stars weren't afraid to take fashion risks. Some looked positively dazzling while others veered close to trainwreck territory, but one thing’s for sure: The un-SAG Award goes to…Lea’s décolletage!
"Glee" hotties Lea Michele and Naya Rivera both dazzled in sexy, sparkly gowns that showed off their assets. Lea usually opts for sweet, feminine gowns, so we adore her in this daring Oscar de la Renta frock. From the makeup to the neckline to the minimal jewelry, the ensemble delivered just the right amount of sex appeal. Co-star Naya's dress was almost identical from the waist down, but she chose to bare her back instead of her chest. The result was similarly alluring. Well done, ladies!
Proving further that great cast mates think alike, "Black Swan" stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis stole the spotlight in strapless gowns. Natalie’s sleek white column perfectly embodied the regal innocence of a white swan, while Mila's playful red patterned Alexander McQueen gown exemplified the sexy, alluring appeal of the black swan. Is life imitating art? Both ensembles were definitely worthy of standing ovations.
Like her aforementioned "Glee" cohorts, Dianna Agron went decidedly more sultry than usual for the SAG red carpet. Though her vintage Chanel's silhouette was pretty standard, the gorgeous navy hue, combined with dark red nails and flawless smoky eyes, was very daring for Dianna. If this is the way her style is evolving, we can’t wait to see what she’ll wear next!
We don’t frequently see Julia Stiles on the red carpet, but there’s no denying that her style’s "slammin’." This dip-dye dress was stylish and flattering, the embodiment of classic-with-a-twist. Lightly tousled curls and ornate earrings topped off the ensemble beautifully.
Some "Glee" gals rocked the red carpet, but others hit a few sour notes. Heather Morris and Jenna Ushkowitz both picked poufy champagne concoctions that looked like they were stolen from the set of an ’80s prom flick. Jenna’s too-tight bodice, too-bright lipstick and over-formal up-do are unflattering and aging. A toned-down version of Heather’s dress might work on someone else, but with her pale lipstick and pale locks, it just makes her look completely washed out. We know that both of these stars are capable of much better!
Amber Riley rounds out the sextet of noteworthy "Glee" ladies. The black dress had some nice elements, like gathered asymmetrical ruching at the waist and a so-hot-right-now one-shoulder neckline. The frilly mermaid train and Carrie-esque shoulder pouf, however, are a bit over the top.
The award for most buzzworthy dress definitely goes to newcomer Hailee Steinfeld. Hot pink and orange are fantastic colors, and she looks undeniably gorgeous. The fishtail bottom of the Prada dress breaks up its shape, though, and the horizontal black stripes are daring, but not necessarily in a good way. One thing's for sure—Hailee’s now mastered the art of grabbing headlines!
