We all know that Superman is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. But come December 2012, the Man of Steel will appear on the big screen with a brand-new superpower to his name: the ability to convince a whole new generation of ladies (and a fair number of men) that there's nothing more lustworthy than a dude who wears a pair of bright red bikini briefs on top of his pants.
NO THERE ISN'T.
And after a look through this flipbook featuring Henry Cavill, the Hollywood hottie who snagged the lead role in the upcoming "Superman" movie, we're sure you'll agree. That chiseled jawline? Those big, blue eyes? That rock-hard physique? Talk about personal Kryptonite.
Happily, seeing Henry in tights is nothing new; he's spent the past few years strutting around in a doublet and breeches for his role as Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, on Showtime's "The Tudors." But he's been wanting to throw on some spandex and beat up bad guys for a long time (he previously tried out for the lead role in "Superman Returns," which went to Brandon Routh, and narrowly missed being cast as the caped crusader in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins"), so snagging this spot in the Zack Snyder reboot of the Superman franchise is a major coup.
Oh, and if you think he's got some dangerous, near-supernatural sexiness going on, you're not alone: the smoldering Brit was Stephenie Meyer's first choice for the role of Edward Cullen in "Twilight." But while we certainly wouldn't have minded getting a little love bite from Henry as a vampire, having him save the world seems pretty okay, too.
