While everyone may be wondering about the blossoming "Dair" relationship on "Gossip Girl," my heart still melts with every smoldering Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) stare. Sure, he’s been called a Basshole and a Mother Chucker over the years, but his chemistry with Blair (Leighton Meester) is undeniable, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who still hopes they’ll one day end up together (it’s meant to be!).
Which is why news that Ed is less than thrilled with his character and the future of the show breaks my little aspiring-Upper-East-Sider heart. Of course, "Gossip Girl" can’t go on forever, but could Manhattan, or the world for that matter, be the same without Chuck Bass? Ed recently told British magazine Tatler that he doesn’t feel connected to his "GG" role, and feels "ready to do something else." Add this to Taylor Momsen’s absence this season and Chace Crawford’s dwindling storylines, and—gasp—the end could be in sight.
But, no need to panic quite yet: the cast is under contract for two more years, which gives the kids (er, Blair, Dan and maybe Vanessa) enough time to graduate from college and embark on ridiculous careers and coveted entry-level positions. In that time, Serena can still manage to get involved in another Ponzi scheme, at least one extra-marital affair and a blackmail scam or two, while Chuck Bass will take over the world.
And remember, Upper East Siders, we’ll always have The Palace.
