If you spent Sunday watching the spectacle of the Grammys unfold, then you probably missed this exciting nugget of information that came out of the BAFTA awards: "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling is writing again. And not just one book, either.
"I don't know when you'll be able to read it. I've got several things on the go at once, so it's hard to know which will be the first that appears in print," Jo told BBC News on the BAFTA red carpet. "But yeah, I'm writing hard."
Jo has been hinting about potential books since way back in 2005, though nothing has come to fruition yet. But if she's working on several projects at the same time, well, that opens up a whole new can of worms. Let's take a look at what she's most likely working on, some novels we hope she's working on and what we're pretty sure she isn't working on.
She is likely writing...her political fairy tale for children.
This is the novel we've heard the most about since Jo started talking about her future books, and since it's been in gestation for more than half a decade, there's a high chance that project is the furthest along. It's something we'd definitely love to see, too, especially since the "Potter" books got so political by the end. It would also be nice to see her tell the story in a world not our own.
We hope she's writing...a fantasy novel for adults.
Let's face it: love it or hate it, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was ultimately an adult novel written in a children's series. The story got really dark, really political and really tragic by the time it reached its conclusion (barring the epilogue, of course), and we'd love to see Jo develop that writing style in a novel, or series, for adults.
There's a chance she's writing...an eighth "Harry Potter" novel.
Then again, there's always a chance Jo is working on her rumored eighth "Potter" novel. She told Oprah back in October that she could "definitely write an eighth, a ninth book," and if she's willing to vocalize it on public television then there's a good chance she's at least started brainstorming some ideas for another novel.
She's probably not writing...a "Harry Potter" encyclopedia.
For those of you keeping your hopes up about Jo's planned "Potter" encyclopedia, it's probably not going to happen any time soon. While it seemed likely when Jo was close to wrapping up the series, in recent years she's said she hasn't been working on it and that she won't publish it unless it is "amazing."
It would completely surprise us if she wrote...a non-fiction, non-fantasy book.
Jo is best known for her work in fantastical, children's literature, so it would come completely out of left field if she decided to leave all of that behind and write a non-fiction book about...well, anything. She has alluded in the past to not wanting to dabble in fantasy again after "Potter" and not writing for children, but both of those concepts have seemingly gone by the wayside in recent years. Then again, anything is possible, and any book would probably be a success no matter the subject as long as she wrote it.
