Jon M. Chu decided to "Never Say Never" when he agreed to direct Justin Bieber and help tell his life story in the musical documentary. He relentlessly followed the pop star around the country to make sure there wasn't a moment of Justin's life that wasn't captured on celluloid for the box-office smash. With a re-release hitting theaters this week, he's our Hump Day Hottie.
Check out this video of Jon, and then keep reading for more details about him!
Vital stats: Jon is a native of Palo Alto, California—the same place James Franco is from… we wonder if they went to high school together? Anyway, the 31-year-old went to the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television where he learned all about the craft of film making.
Where you might have already seen him: Well, you probably haven't seen him on camera, per se, considering he's a man known for his work behind the lens. He's helmed such high-profile projects as "Step Up 3D" and "The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers." Oh yeah, he also directed a small film called "Never Say Never" starring some kid that's supposedly some big deal, Justin Bieber.
"[It's] a movie for his fans, a movie for people who don't know him, and we're gonna tell the underdog story of where he came from," he explained about the Bieber flick. "Because it's a really fascinating story, and it has a lot to do with our sort of digital lifestyle now. He was able to do what corporations try to do now when they use YouTube and they don't even know what to do with it yet. It's a pretty cool story for our time."
Why you should take notice of him now: This week a new, extended version of "Never Say Never" is about to hit theaters. Also he's rumored to be in the running to direct the "G.I. Joe" sequel. While it's still speculation, he admits he'd love the chance to film that project.
"'Joe' is something I've loved since I was a kid," he told us. "I still think there's a movie out there that can be done for the real 'Joe' fans, the one we've been waiting for that hasn't been done before."
Until next week, when we choose another Hump Day Hottie, you can salute Jon by gazing at him in the video!
