From witches to zombies, power brokers to city girls, there's a little something for everyone on the list of fall pilots. As it usually goes though, while the list of would-be series is pretty extensive (each of the big networks has ordered a batch), most of them will end up on the chopping block. So which pilots actually have what it takes to get picked up? Well, we've parsed through the titles and descriptions to find five that sound the most appealing. Check them out below and give yourself a head start on the "next big thing" (at least according to us!).
5. "Grimm" (NBC)
While there are plenty of supernatural shows running around of late, this one's got a twist. In "Grimm," characters from Grimm's fairy tales actually exist, and it's up to detective Nick Burckhardt (played by David Giuntoli, who recently starred in MTV's "Turn The Beat Around" and "Privileged"), to keep them in check.
Our Take: We love David, so we may be a little biased here, but we're very excited about this show. The concept is undoubtedly unique and we can't wait to see how it translates on to the screen. The only catch with this pilot is that NBC has also ordered another supernatural cop-drama, "17th Precinct," (minus the fairy tale element). We're guessing only one of them will make the cut, and we're hoping it's this one.
4. "Don't Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23" (ABC)
ABC has proven its worth with quirky comedies (hello "Modern Family!"), so this pilot about a naive young woman who moves to New York City, only to end up rooming with a crazy city girl is certainly something to look forward to.
Our Take: Admittedly, the premise of a small-town girl moving to New York City isn't exactly new. That being said, we're ready for a little comfort television that won't make us pull our hair out over every twist and turn (see the next pilot on this list).
3. "Awakening" (CW)
Sisterly issues take on a whole new meaning on this show, as two siblings face-off right in the smack-dab middle of a zombie uprising (talk about bad timing!).
Our Take: The CW's certainly got the playbook perfected when it comes to vampires, but the network is embarking on a whole new supernatural element in the "Awakening," and we're looking forward to seeing how they handle it. We think this pilot's certainly got promise, if only because it reminds us a little of our beloved "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," in which a young girl comes of age only to learn that she's got a knack for killing vamps. No word yet on whether the two sisters in "Awakening" will be taking on the zombies, as well as each other, but we really can't imagine it any other way.
2. Georgetown (ABC)
Far from anything supernatural, Josh Schwartz's "Georgetown" promises to be a political drama which centers around 20-somethings who work for power brokers in Washington, D.C. Thus far, the cast includes "Gossip Girl"'s Kevin Zegers and "Vampire Diaries"' Tiya Sircar.
Our Take: As much as we love our zombies and witches, we're ready for something different to add to our show roster, and "Georgetown" seems like the perfect fit. Also, who doesn't want to see Kevin in a suit every week?
1. "Secret Circle" (CW)
A pilot with some major buzz, "Secret Circle" is based on a novel by "Vampire Diaries" author L.J. Smith and centers around a young girl who discovers she's a witch.
Our Take: With "Vampire Diaries"' Kevin Williamson at the helm and "Life Unexpected" star Britt Robertson leading the cast, it's hard for us to imagine a scenario in which this pilot doesn't succeed. The real test, however, will be whether or not this show can match the breakout success of "TVD." Both shows certainly have a lot in common, but "TVD" hit a home-run with its great ensemble chemistry and strong, unpredictable writing—two elements "Secret Circle" will need in order to match its predecessor's appeal.
