Now that I've had some time to process the surprise "Hunger Games" movie casting of Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, I am VERY curious to see who director Gary Ross taps to fill out the rest of the cast.
Luckily, for me and all of my fellow fans, Entertainment Weekly broke the news today that Hollywood newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg have been cast as District 11 tributes Thresh and Rue. (Also check out this nifty graphic that's been added to The Hunger Games Facebook page.)
My instant reaction? I love them both! Especially the fact that they are newcomers. The scenes with Thresh and Rue are some of my absolute favorites in the book—the scene with Katniss singing to Rue with the flowers, and the heroic moment with Thresh... Sigh and swoon! I might have to go reread those scenes right now...
Anyway! According to a quick Google search, Dayo's credits include the short "Eyes to See" and the upcoming horror film, "Slew Hampshire." Amandla will appear in the upcoming films "Colombiana" and the telefilm "Taste of Romance."
What's your reaction to the Rue/Thresh casting news? Are you psyched to see newcomers in the roles, or did you have your heart set on someone else in Hollywood? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
