The Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber did it, so perhaps it was only a matter of time before "Glee" sang a similar tune. Following in the footsteps of "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" and "Never Say Never," 20th Century Fox's TV and film divisions are teaming up to produce "Glee Live 3D!," a movie based on the "Glee Live! In Concert!" North American tour, Deadline reports. Which means if you didn't get your grubby little paws on summer tour tickets, you can slap down an Alexander Hamilton to see New Directions on the big screen for a two-week run starting August 12.
The flick will include performances by (almost) all of our favorites: Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Mark Salling, Dianna Agron, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr, Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss and Ashley Fink. (I want my Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch too!)
While I'd be more intrigued by a non-live "Glee" movie (i.e. something akin to a special, two-hour episode), I'm still pretty enthused that fans unable to get into the tour can see their favorite glee club in theaters. However, I can't help but wonder how a 3D format benefits the film.* Will Artie's wheelchair appear to run us over? Will Sam's pout look extra trouty? Will Finn's fist pumps more closely resemble Mike Tyson-worthy uppercuts? Maybe it's just me, but I'm fine seeing my favorite McKinley Highers in 2D.
*I should add that my anti-3D sentiments apply to all performance films, not just this latest one...
