Ah, the lowly intern. Coffee fetcher extraordinaire. Mail-sorting machine. Dimly lit cubicle dweller. Glamorous, right?
Well, it can be, if you're just doing it for funsies. Get ready for this one guys: Unpaid labor is totally in, as of late. Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but there is a growing trend among celebs to step down from the pedestal that is fame and join ranks at the bottom of the proverbial ladder. "90210"'s Shenae Grimes is the latest star to add "intern" to her post-Big Break résumé. Following in the footsteps of Lauren Conrad, she just started a six-week stint Teen Vogue-ing it up, according to Us Weekly.
Shenae isn't the first famous face to trade in a movie set or sold-out stadium for a little slave labor. Here's a list of other celebrities who've gone the way of the intern.
Kanye West Oh, Kanye. So much ego for such a lowly position. We kid, but seriously, Kanye is nothing if not a determined go-getter, right? Those just happen to be must-have qualities for an intern, as well as a superstar performer. When he decided he wanted to do fashion, Kanye got his hands dirty at the bottom—as an intern for Gap. Somehow, we don't think he was making many coffee runs.
Mark Indelicato Teen Vogue is a go-to for celebs interested in fashion journalism. Not only has it played home to LC and Shenae, but "Ugly Betty"'s Mark Indelicato took a gig at the mag last year after the show wrapped. Mark? Kanye? Boys club of fashion much?
Ryan Adams If you like your celebrity interns a little less fashion-oriented, why not recruit Ryan Adams? The singer interned at BlackBook Magazine. His skill set, according to the mag: mailroom duties and filing TPS reports (wonder if he went ballistic on any printers, "Office Space"-style, while he was there?).
