It looks like Trevor Donovan's days in Beverly Hills are numbered. According to TVLine, Trevor—whose character Teddy recently came out of the closet—will no longer be a series regular when "90210" kicks off its fourth season this fall.
"I look back on getting this real-life story line as a blessing," Trevor told the website in a statement. "To be able to simultaneously take on a challenging role and bring awareness to a relevant social issue was a win-win for me. I’m looking forward to what opportunities and adventures lie ahead."
A CW rep had not responded to our request for comment by press time, but TVLine notes that Trevor will return as a guest star for about five episodes. The news follows reports that Lori Loughlin and Ryan Eggold wouldn't be returning either. The characters on the show are mostly moving on to college, deeming the "adult" roles pretty much unnecessary. Who needs parents and high school teachers in college? Right?
This news leaves Freddie Smith, who plays Teddy's on-screen love interest Marco, hanging, as well. He told us recently that he could be coming back for season four.
"There's a great possibility I'll be back next year, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they're doing with it!" he said.
UPDATE: A CW spokeswoman confirmed to Hollywood Crush that Trevor will not be a series regular next season but will appear in at least five episodes.
