Let's face it, Thursday nights just haven't been the same since Mystic Falls' finest went on summer hiatus. So, naturally, we were more than a little excited when some of our favorite "Vampire Diaries" cast members tweeted yesterday that they were finally back on set. Granted, we're still two long months away from the actual premiere, but at least now that filming has started again we can obsess over every little detail that slips out, like, for instance, this photo of Nina Dobrev on set that Matt Davis posted this morning.
While the photo doesn't spoil anything major, it definitely gives us a lot to think about (we're not even going to try to deny the fact that we spent all day analyzing it!). What caught us most off guard about the image is Elena's (assuming that's even her!) look, which is decidedly very un-Elena like. Now, don't get us wrong, we're all about Elena spicing up her wardrobe (especially since Katherine usually gets to wear all the risque stuff), but since when does she wear flashy red halters? Or put her hair up in a bun? She's more of a long T-shirts and sweaters kind of gal. Obviously, we had to get to the bottom of this.
Now, thanks to TVGuide.com, we already know that the episode will jump ahead a few weeks and take place close to Elena's 18th birthday, so the natural conclusion is that she's all dolled up to celebrate the night away. But that being said, it's hard to imagine Elena being in the partying mood when she's still reeling from losing Stefan (Paul Wesley) to Klaus (Joseph Morgan)...unless this is all part of some cunning plan to lure him back with her hotness. (Okay, that would be a terrible twist. Aren't you glad we don't write for "TVD"?)
Of course, it could also be that Elena's going through some kind of crazy identity crisis now that Stefan's gone off the deep end. Or maybe her kiss with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) awakened her sultry side. Then, since this is "TVD," there's always the possibility that the look is for a flashback sequence, but even that seems like a stretch considering it's only the first episode and we're pretty sure there's a lot of present stuff (you know, ghosts, hybrids, etc.) going on that they need to address too.
In other words, as is always the case with "The Vampire Diaries," we don't really know. Sure, we come up with a lot of logical sounding guesses (the birthday thing really seems to fit), but then the show airs and we're left thinking "How did we not think of that?!" So, we're leaving it to you "TVD" experts to dissect this image to the fullest and share your best guesses with us. Come September 13th we'll find out which of us got close, and which ones still can't predict this show!
Why do you think Elena's all dressed up in the season premiere?
