'Glee'! Justin Timberlake! 'Friday Night Lights'! We Name Our Favorite Emmy Nominees

Posted 7/14/11 10:49 am EST by Aly Semigran in TV News

It was television's biggest morning, as the nominations for the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmys were announced, and some of our favorite shows and stars found themselves in the running.

While the face of "Glee" is about to look very different after next season (sigh), it's current cast got some Emmy nod love. Chris Colfer, who is one of the confirmed trio departing after season three, will get one more chance to win an Emmy in the Supporting Actor Comedy race. Jane Lynch, who won last year for her hilarious work as the villainous Sue Sylvester will try her hand in the Best Supporting Actress category (whose other nominees this year include the oh-so-adorable Betty White from "Hot in Cleveland" and the hilarious Kristen Wiig of "Saturday Night Live") again. Better yet, Jane will be hosting the ceremony this year!

But, the nominations got even more Gleek-tastic, as the show itself is nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series category again (it will go up against the very hilarious "Modern Family," which got an amazing 17 nominations, more than any other comedy!). While Lea Michele didn't find herself with a nomination this year, memorable "Glee" guest stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristin Chenoweth and Dot-Marie Jones (Coach Bieste!) did.

In fact, famous guest stars made for some of our other favorite Emmy nominees. Justin Timberlake got four Emmy nominations for his appearances on "Saturday Night Live," including one for that sidesplitting number he did with Lady Gaga and Andy Samberg. Oh, JT, is there anything you can't do?

Over in the drama categories, we were cheering on "Friday Night Lights," which finally got some Emmy love for its last season. The football drama scored with a nomination in the Outstanding Drama Series category, while Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, who play the lovable Coach and Tami Taylor, both are nominees in the Outstanding Actor and Actress Drama categories, respectively. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose (we hope!). Of course, they'll have some stiff competition going against MTV Movies Blog fave "Game of Thrones" and other great dramas like "Dexter" and "Mad Men."

In the reality television world, "American Idol," "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Project Runway" will square off for Outstanding Reality Competition (we can't believe Emmy voters didn't love "Jersey Shore" for Outstanding Reality Series either, Crushers!)

Some other Emmy nominations that made us smile were "Conan" in the Variety, Musical or Comedy category, "Mad Men"'s Jon Hamm and "Dexter"'s Michael C. Hall in Outstanding Actor Drama (it's a good thing they don't rate these on handsomeness, or else they'd be at a deadlock), Zach Galifianakis ("SNL") and Matt Damon for Guest Actor Comedy (for the record, we're still rooting for JT here), Kate Winslet ("Mildred Pierce") for Actress in a Miniseries, and Melissa McCarthy ("Mike & Molly") for her first nomination in Lead Actress Comedy.

Of course, like any awards nomination announcement, there were some major disappointments. But, there was none that, ahem, sucked, more than "True Blood" getting hardly any Emmy love. Sookeh!?! The show was left out of all the big races, including Drama and all the major acting categories. Alfre Woodard did get a nod for her work as a guest, but we're still perplexed as to how its leads Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten, Alexander SkarsgÄrd, and Joe Manganiello were left out. That totally bites.

The 63rd Annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Jane Lynch, will air live on Fox on Sunday, September 18 at 8 p.m. For the full list of nominees check out Emmy.com!

Tell us, Crushers, which Emmy nominees are your favorite? Who do you think should win? Which snubs shocked you the most? Tell us in the comments section below and on Twitter!
