The 2011 MTV Video Music Award nominees were announced last night, and as you might expect, divas like Katy Perry and Adele lead the charge with nine and seven nods each. While there's no doubt it's been a good year for the gurls, when we took a closer look at the list, we noticed another interesting piece of trivia: a number of the nominees have also been covered by McKinley High's New Directions! (You know what they say about great minds...)
When our two worlds collide, we just can't help but comment, so keep reading after the jump to see which ditties' praises are being sung by both the VMAs and "Glee"!
"Born This Way" by Lady Gaga
Mother Monster has been such a font of inspiration for the forces behind "Glee" that she's been highlighted in not one, but two episodes during the series' short run, and "Born This Way" is the kind of anthem a rag-tag group of outsiders like New Directions can relate to better than most. The entire group famously suited up in T-shirts proclaiming their insecurities to belt this number during an episode titled, fittingly, "Born This Way."
"Firework" and "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry
Much like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry's music has served as the backdrop to many a "love yourself" moments on "Glee." To wit, "Firework" became the anthem for a lonely Rachel in the Valentine's Day episode "Silly Love Song." But no Katy ditty is more memorable for "Glee"sters than "Teenage Dream," which was our first introduction to lovable Blaine (Darren Criss) in the episode "Never Been Kissed." We still swoon over that one.

"Rolling in the Deep" by Adele
The British songstress' catalog is chock-full of ballads bemoaning fraught romantic entanglements—and with McKinley High's revolving dating door, it was only a matter of time before this song struck a chord with one of the glee clubbers. Rachel (Lea Michele) and former flame Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff) dueted on this powerful piece in the "Prom Queen" episode. But, really, nothing can compare to the original.
"F--- You" by Cee Lo Green
Cee Lo Green's expletive-laden pop ditty is the perfect, perky kiss-off song, but the cleaned-up version ("Forget You"), placed in the hands of "Glee" guest star Gwyneth Paltrow, became a playful ice-breaker for her and her new charges in the episode "The Substitute."
