Fans of ABC Family's "Switched at Birth" woke to great news this morning: the network has ordered an additional 22 episodes of the freshman series, meaning the show will have a full first season! Though the summer finale airs on August 8, the drama will return in early 2012 to wrap up Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay's (Vanessa Marano) first season plotlines.
We were lucky enough to sit down with the series' lively leading ladies today, and they couldn't have been more excited about the full season order.
"Loud. It was a loud reaction," Vanessa said, when asked how she responded to the news.
"And screaming, and jumping up and down and smiles," co-star Katie chimed in.
"It was really exciting, times a million," Vanessa added.
So now that the stars know a full first season is ahead of them, what do they want to see happen to their characters during the upcoming 22 episodes? Vanessa has one doozy of a scene in mind:
"I really want, because Bay is learning sign language now, for them to get into a fight, and it is, like, a sign language fight. And Daphne is being completely silent, and Bay is trying to follow along but doesn't really know sign language. And Daphne is being a rock star and killin' it and attacking Bay. And Bay is trying to attack her normal snarky way but physically can't do it."
"I want to see the frustration on your face during that scene," Katie replied. "That's really all I want to see."
So do we, Katie. So do we.
