Turns out MTV Video Music Awards pre-show host Selena Gomez didn't need any of our advice after all. The 19-year-old starlet handled her black carpet hosting duties like a pro—all while flaunting one of our favorite looks of the night.
Selena looked simply stunning in a gothic-esque black lace Julien McDonald half-gown accessorized with gold heels and clutch. She wore her hair in a simple up-swept 'do that let all the attention linger on the frock's intricate neckline (which we totally loved!).
Half-gowns have been a favored look for Selena over the years; we most recently oohed and aahed over the oh-so elegant Irina Shabayeva printed frock she wore to this year's People's Choice Awards.
And Miss Gomez wasn't the only star on hand whose look tended towards the dark and dreamy. Britney Spears, who was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, wore a black sequined Moschino romper, while "Colombiana" star Zoe Saldana looked super-sexy in a Barbara Bui Fall 2011 little black dress with plunging neckline.
