Like a patron at any fine strip club establishment, we aren't shy about our enthusiasm for "Magic Mike." Any flick that features Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer as beefcake dancers, well, let's just say we've already bought our tickets.
A while back we caught up with the flick's director, Steven Soderbergh, who seemed equally psyched for the flick. How do we know? Well he gushed, "That’s gonna be crazy; the stories are crazy."
We bet! We're sure some crazy stuff happens to the male strippers and the ladies (Wendi McLendon-Covey, Riley Keough, Cody Horn) who love them. While the film is loosely based on Channing's former days as a male stripper, Soderbergh assures us there's plenty of creative license being used to drive the story for the big screen.
"It’s a fictionalized version of what Channing went through," he said. "Channing's sort of playing a version of himself and Alex is kind of playing a version of Channing. They're sort of amalgamations of other people. No one has ever said, 'But that didn't happen' because it's not really that. It's just the world that I think is really fascinating."
So what sorts of antics will moviegoers witness when the flick eventually hit theaters? Well, it seems they're very NSFW. "I don’t know that I can say on a basic cable show," he said. "You're dealing with a lot of people, and I find this just one of the funniest things to watch [because] you're dealing with a lot of people in a very strange business taking what they do very, very seriously, and these are guys in thongs and bow ties. I think it's going to be fun."
We do too, Steven.
