Fashion Week is in full swing in New York, and all week long we will have you covered on the latest trends, styles and hot shows. Now every year, Fashion Week kicks off with Fashion’s Night Out, which is basically an excuse to have a good time and get a sneak peek of what we can expect on the runways. This year, we hit up Rebecca Minkoff’s hair-braiding party where hairdressers weaved a leather band through everyone’s hair.
"I’m known for my leather handbags," Rebecca told us. "When we decided to do the braid bar it was kind of a no-brainer to say, 'Let’s do something different. Let’s have leather.'"
As I was getting my own leather braid (I suggest getting one, they’re really fun!), I asked Rebecca what kind of trends we will see working the runways.
"We are going to see a lot of bright colors, a lot of neons, at least from me," Rebecca said of spring trends. "People want to be happy right now, just making people happy."
From there, we headed uptown to visit one of my favorite stores, Alice + Olivia, where we caught up with designer Stacey Bendet, who brought the carnival to Fashion’s Night Out.
"We wanted to do something that was fun. Instead of throwing a party, we decided to make it really thematic," Stacey said. "I love carnivals, and I love cotton candy and face painting, so I decided it would be really fun if we did that as a whole celebration throughout the store."
Not only did we leave the store with a face full of cotton candy, we also left with Stacey’s predictions for the 2012 spring season.
"I think you’re going to see a lot of prints, a lot of florals," Stacey said. "It’s like a beautiful color palette. Its sort of like Palm Bach, sherbets, kind of bright pastels mixed with a lot of white and the clothes. For us they’re really fun. It’s girly, it’s happy, it’s fun, it’s a mix of things that are beautiful and feminine with things that are quirky, colorful and fun."
