Buzz for Laini Taylor's "Daughter of Smoke & Bone" has been building around the MTV offices for weeks now. So much so, in fact, that we selected it as the next read for our small YA book club (comprised of some of your favorite MTV blog editors...). Yet, despite all the good word of mouth, I know very little about the September 27 release. Why, you ask? Because every informed reader I've asked insists that divulging even the smallest detail will reveal the entire plot of this romantic fantasy. In short, I need to read "Daughter of Smoke & Bone," like, now.
If you're as intrigued as I am, then I have a treat for you! We got our hands on the EXCLUSIVE "Daughter of Smoke & Bone" book trailer, in addition to an audio excerpt featuring your newest YA crush object, Akiva. Click play on the video below to watch the eye-popping clip!
And, because we're the nice sort and don't want to leave you aching with too much suspense, here's a glimpse of the book's official synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Karou leads two lives: one in the tangled streets of Prague, as a talented and mysterious art student; the other in a clandestine workshop overflowing with jars of teeth, run by the ram-horned magician, Brimstone—the closest thing to family Karou has ever known. Even to herself, Karou is a mystery. She doesn’t know where she came from, or if she’s entirely human.
Frustration over her unknown identity mounting, Karou is suddenly and unexpectedly cut off from the only place she can find answers when the doorways to Brimstone’s workshop are suddenly consumed in flames—set by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. When one of these strangers meets Karou, she is set on the path of learning her true history—and possibly regretting it forever. Because finding out the truth will mean being thrown into a brutal ancient war that is far from over.
Sounds mysterious, eh? We can't wait!
