Too bad tonight's "Vampire Diaries" episode title, "The Hybrid," doesn't refer to an ecologically sound roadtrip in which Stefan and Damon cruise through the South in a Prius picking up recyclables from the side of the highway. (Wouldn't that be neato!?) What it really means, of course, is that Klaus is continuing his master plan of creating half-vampire, half-werewolf creatures with Stefan's help, while Damon and Elena search for him in vain. But just because the Salvatore brothers' roles have been reversed, you shouldn't call Damon a "good guy" just yet. And that's according to actor Ian Somerhalder, himself!
"There's one big misconception, I think, that Damon has become this sort of hero guy," Ian told us from the red carpet at the Emmy Awards. "He's not. He doesn't know how to do that. Nor does he want it. He's actually kind of pissed off. For two seasons, he's tried to get his brother to do exactly that—run around, munch on sorority girls, destroy everything in their path, to no avail. Now he's running around with Klaus doing that same exact thing. He hates Klaus. Klaus is a d---. He's tried to kill him. He's not in a great place."
But don't feel sorry for Ian just yet. He went on to say that there are plenty of perks to this new role of Damon's.
"What's fun to play about that is, Damon and Elena have this great banter," Ian enthused. Katherine comes back, really cool. It's a lot of fun, man."
What do you think about Ian's comments. Are you excited to see Katherine again? Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!
