Poor Sutton. All she wanted was to reunite with her birth mother, but instead, she was locked in a psychiatric facility, left to flaunt the most unflattering floral nightgown ever. So wrong on so many levels. Sutton tried to convince the doctor that she wasn't an imposter named Emma, begging her to call her parents back in Phoenix...
...where the entire gang was still waiting outside of Eduardo's hospital room for him to wake up. And what was their pleasant, time-consuming banter? Oh, just the fact that Sutton slept with Thayer. A little secret Ethan accidentally slipped right in front of Mads and Char. Mads was especially hurt considering she'd point-blank asked Sutton if she'd slept with Thayer, which she denied. But there was no time to hash it out since Eduardo finally woke up. As Mads went to get him a glass of water, he beckoned Emma in to tell her he overheard Alec talking about her. What it was he said, exactly, Emma wouldn't know because just then Eduardo coded.
Emma confided Eduardo's secret to Thayer, who vowed to search dad Alec's laptop for clues. Little did Emma know that Thayer would be her awkward wake-up call the following morning when he came to share the results of his investigation. But the only thing Thayer was able to retrieve from the laptop was evidence of phone calls between Alec and Char's boyfriend Derek. Of course, this bizarre bedroom strategy session was the perfect moment for Ethan to come gallivanting through the window, and he didn't like what he saw one bit. But, good guy Thayer took the opportunity to lighten the moment, delivering the best exchange of the night: "I get it, dude. She's just like Sutton." To which Ethan responded, "But better." Awwwww....
Thayer left the Mercers' for a poolside chatfest with Char, in which he told her about the mysterious phone calls. She didn't seem too concerned, but she brought it up with Derek later, who said that he had been busted for possession (he was just holding the stuff for a friend, okay!,) and DA Alec helped him get off with "community service." More like "Alec service."
But I'm forgetting about the girl who's quickly becoming my favorite character: Laurel! Because this was a big week for Sutton's little sis. She lost her virginity! We think! After confiding to Emma that Justin was "the one" (which in teen speak means he's worthy of her V-card, not marriage), Laurel set up a den of romance over at Justin's foreclosed house. But BF seemed a little hesitant, mostly because he was scared, which was admittedly cute. They began kissing and then...fade to black. Until! The Mercers couldn't find Laurel and used her cell-phone tracking device, which lead them to Casa Justin. They found Laurel sleeping (like, actually sleeping) with Justin, wearing not much more than his T-shirt. She swore they didn't do anything. But that's not true...right?
Emma and Thayer continued to ruminate over the Eduardo situation, finally deciding they needed to break into the hospital after hours to visit him again. But when they arrived, Char and Mads were outside too. Once again, Emma told Mads she couldn't tell her what she was up to, which made Mads' anger/jealousy only grow. Emma finally agreed they could all go in together (which would for all intents and purposes reveal the truth that she wasn't actually Sutton), but it might have been too late, because Eduardo had gone into convulsions and a resulting coma. Yikes! Later at Mads' house, Emma decided to drop a bit of truth: She told Mads that her dad might know something about her birth mother and was trying to hide it. Cue Alec's timely entrance. Dun dun dun.
Back in L.A., Sutton was doing everything she could to stay in the facility as long as possible so she could talk to her mother. Her scheming finally paid off when an orderly gave her a key card so she could sneak into her mom's room, where she was met with a startling realization: Mom thought Emma died in their house fire. Because "they" told her so. "They" totally being Alec and Ted, right? Sutton couldn't get much else though as her mom began screaming and telling her to leave. Sutton was carted away...into the custody of the Las Vegas police department (seeing as Sutton's attempt to prove her identity was thwarted when Emma answered the Mercers' phone as Sutton). And what a funny coincidence it all was since Emma's former foster brother Travis was making himself at home in the Mercer house at that very moment...
