All week long, MTV News is honoring young Hollywood by inducting its brightest stars into The New Class—a role call of 10 up-and-coming actors and actresses to keep a close eye on. There's a TV starlet about to make her big-screen breakthrough, a former girl wizard casting a new, grown-up spell and a guy making us all "Hunger" for Peeta (just to name a few).
Each day, we'll dole out a new superlative to these rising talents (check out Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower's now!), but we need your help! In addition to these honors, we want you to elect The New Class President—the guy or girl you consider the cream of the crop. Click past the jump to see the full list and cast your vote!

Bruno Mars has company.
Hot on the heels of last week's announcement that the crooner's "It Will Rain" would be featured on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack comes the album's full track listing—and there's plenty to discuss.
For starters, I'm totally in love with director Bill Condon's nod to the first "Twilight Saga" film with the inclusion of Iron & Wine's "Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Wedding Version)." Twilighters will recognize that melancholy number from "Twilight"'s prom scene, in which Bella and Edward sway dreamily underneath a glittery gazebo. The only question is whether this redo will play during the actual wedding ceremony or during the reception as the couple's first dance. Either way, consider me swooning already.

Hollywood has no shortage of Pretty Young Things vying for the title of Next Big Thing, but it takes a certain something to really outshine the competition. As intangible as that something may be, we here at MTV News are pretty sure we've got it figured out, evidenced by our list of 10 up-and-comers to watch. Meet "The New Class"—a curated collection of young actors and actresses about to graduate to greatness. Each day this week, we'll award each a superlative (you know, like Most Accident Prone...but much cooler) AND give you the opportunity to vote for the ultimate title of Class President.
We start with "Mortal Instruments" stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, who are bound not only for shared success in the supernatural YA adaptation, but for singular accolades in projects like "Snow White" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn." We spoke with both about their honors.

Rom-com regular Katherine Heigl is trading in heartbreak for handcuffs as she stars in the big-screen adaptation of Janet Evanovich's crime caper "One for the Money." And thanks to Yahoo! Movies, we're getting our first look at the trailer for the January 2012 release.
Katherine plays Stephanie Plum, a recently unemployed lingerie saleswoman who turns to her cousin's bail-bondsman business for a job. Her first assignment? Pick up dirty cop Joe Morelli (played by Jason Mara), whom she just so happened to have a sexual dalliance with back in high school. Stephanie goes on a raucous little romp to recover Morelli—a romp that apparently includes kooky family dinners, naked senior citizens and feisty hookers (no doubt with hearts of gold).

After all the great fashion on display at the Emmy Awards, the rest of Hollywood's most fashionable ladies had some tough standards to live up to this week. Some succeeded brilliantly; some missed the mark. Whose embellished party dress added the perfect glitzy kick to her red-carpet appearance? And whose feathered hemline tripped up her usually-impeccable style? Check it.

We almost overlooked Taylor Swift in the running for this week's Style Superstar—after all, it's not like we haven't seen the girl in a dozen frocks similar to this one. But y'know, there's a reason why Taylor so often opts for short, spangled dresses in champagne-y shades: They look fabulous on her! And this Elie Saab cocktail dress, which she wore to the ACM Honors this week, is a winner in every way. The sequined accents are gorgeous and keep an otherwise bland beige from washing out Taylor's pale complexion, and her red lips and sleek hairstyle set off the glam perfectly. And while it may be small potatoes after winning the ACM Entertainer of the Year Award earlier this year, we'd still like to congratulate Taylor on being this week's Style Superstar!

It’s time to put away those flip-flops, hang up the sun dresses and fold up those shorts because fall has officially arrived! With the change of temperature comes a change in wardrobe, so what will everyone be wearing this season? We asked the experts to let us know what we will be filling our closets with this fall.
"A high-waist pant is a big must for fall," designer Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia told us. "A long skirt, pleaded skirts, printed skirts; those are all three things I would say are a must.”

I don't know how many people are responsible for this, but someone—author Michelle Hodkin, publisher Simon & Schuster, all those magic elves that make books happen—is doing things right with "The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer" (out next Tuesday, September 27). First of all, that title blows me away. "Unbecoming" sounds both like someone unraveling and like a teenage girl behaving unladylike, making you all the more curious about who this Mara Dyer person is. Then there's the cover, a girl being embraced by a boy from behind, both underwater up to their eyes and photographed in dark sepia tones that bring a mood of melancholy and mystery. Is he rescuing her? Holding her down? Desperately hanging on? (Also, I love that you can't see their actual faces. Hate when covers have some model's face that then dominates my imagination when I try to picture the characters myself.)
And then, we come to the book trailer, a medium that frankly, I think is still hit-or-miss. This one is a mega-hit. And mega-HOT. "Even Stevens" vet Christy Carlson Romano does the voice-over, which is actually the letter that opens the story, as the scenes unfold, mostly in black and white. The narrator, who claims that Mara Dyer is not her real name, tells us that "a 17-year-old who likes Death Cab for Cutie was responsible for the murders," and "somewhere out there is a B student with a body count." Those words lend a creepy air to the quickly cut scenes of three girls using a Ouija board, a news ticker reporting on the death of three teens in a building collapse, a storm, Mara walking alone at night by an old building, a car heading straight for the camera and the very sexy make out session between Mara and a shirtless, broody and delicious boy. And the song that plays over it all, bringing a sense of urgency, is a driving, crescendoing rock song—not by Death Cab but by singer/songwriter Kelli Schaefer.

Plenty of teenage girls would love to discover a bunch of magical powers lying dormant within. But not Cassie on "The Secret Circle." She wants nothing to do with the guys and gals who've explained to her that she's the missing link to their magic carpet ride around the boat town of Chance Harbor, where generations of witches have been up to tricks of the sometimes-lethal variety for years.
The second episode of the series from the producers of "The Vampire Diaries" (based, like that CW show, on young adult novels by L.J. Smith) finds newcomer Cassie still rejecting what everyone was telling her last week was her destiny "written in the stars," including a forbidden romance with Adam. The dude has a girlfriend, yet he and Cassie keep ending up in some electric situations—including some magical moments that involve, you know, light bulbs and actual electricity.

To whomever crafts the "previously on 'The Vampire Diaries'" clips,
I do not appreciate false advertising. Including Katherine in the aforementioned clip was a thoughtless, inconsiderate tactic. You should be ashamed of yourself. Oh, how you led me on.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way (you didn’t think I could actually go an entire recap without obsessing over Katherine and hoping against hope that she’d somehow return, did you?), we can move on to discussing last night’s episode. Although we’re not really discussing it, if you know what I mean. I’m merely writing about it, and maybe you’ll write some comments later. But it’s more of a one-sided discussion—a monologue shall we say—with me playing that teacher who says "we’re going to talk about this today," and in reality she just means that she’s going to talk about this today. Well, class, today’s topic is "The Hybrid." Here are some bullet points for your notes:

Even though we're only just getting to know the daring and potentially dangerous denizens of Chance Harbor on the new CW soap "The Secret Circle," given the way things seem to be headed, it's safe to say there is a lot of drama on the horizon. And stuff catching on fire too.
MTV News recently caught up with star Shelley Hennig (a.k.a. good girl Diana Meade) to get her take on how things are going to play out this season and what kind of magic we'll see practiced among those pretty young witches.
"We just wrapped [episode six] a few hours ago," she revealed at The CW's premiere party. "There are lots of love triangles, lots of magic, and my favorite thing about the show is that it is definitely a coming-of-age story and we're just beginning to understand what our powers are. I'm looking forward to knowing what each character is capable of. I feel like we're getting a piece of that soon."
