Vanessa Lengiesby Dionne Buxton

Watch out, Gleeks! McKinley High has a new troublemaker. You might recognize Vanessa Lengies from "American Dreams" or "Hawthorne," but you'll know her from now on as Sugar Motta, the oddball new addition to Fox’s musical hit, "Glee."

Vanessa got her start in Canadian television (remember "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" Yeah, I still get shivers...), but she quickly made a name for herself in the musical genre, becoming a regular cast member on NBC’s "American Dreams." We caught up with Vanessa yesterday to talk about her new role on "Glee," how long Sugar will be sticking around and a possible crush.

New GirlNot content limiting their Zooey Deschanel interactions to those hipster cotton commercials, TV viewers turned out in full force last night for the actress' quirky new series, "New Girl."

The Fox laugher stars Zooey as plucky Jess, a recently jilted girlfriend who makes a fresh start by moving into an apartment with three guys. A good thing for them—they'd never seen "Dirty Dancing"!

Despite the pilot being posted on Hulu and iTunes prior to its premiere, "New Girl" earned pretty stellar ratings, according to TVLine. In fact, it even bested its lead-in...a little series you may have heard of called "Glee."

Now, the question is, will viewers return next week? Personally, I felt like the series' ad campaign revealed way too much of the pilot, so I'll be tuning in to see what other giggles and gags the "New Girl" has planned for me before passing my final judgement. But what about you? Did Zooey win you over? Vote in our poll after the jump!

As Zooey Deschanel recently gushed, it's a really great time for female-driven comedy. Thanks to the success of flicks like "Bridesmaid" and all those new TV shows (think: "2 Broke Girls" and "New Girl"), it's giving other lady comedies the green light.

And next up is "Bachelorette," which revolves around a group of women asked to be the bridesmaids to a woman they used to bully back in high school. Currently shooting in the Big Apple, it's written and directed by a lady, Leslye Headland, and features some of our favorite actors like Isla Fisher, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Scott and James Marsden.

We caught up with James recently at the "Straw Dogs" premiere where he gushed about the current state of lady comedy and potential "Bridesmaids" comparisons.

"Again, very different just trying to keep people confused; if you never know then I'm happy," he said of his upcoming project and diverse resume. "This has been around for a while—there's gonna be comparisons drawn. It's a great R-rated comedy. It's really about the girls."

GleeClass is back in session! And thanks to intrepid McKinley High gossip reporter Jacob Ben Israel, we got a quick status update on our favorite "Glee"sters. First order of business: clearing up who's actually a senior (i.e. headed for a spin-off or unemployment checks) and who still has a year to sing and dance with New Directions. For the record: Finn, Rachel, Kurt and Mike Chang are confirmed seniors. Tina and Artie aren't. (The wheelchair adds a year.)

Further points of clarification: Lauren Zises quit glee, Sam's dad got a new job in a different town, Mercedes is dating a footballer, Santana's modeling her life after her new No. 1 Latina Paula "I'm actually Arab" Abdul, Mr. Schue and Emma are sleeping together (sex not included?) and Quinn is MIA.

Julianne Hough sure knows how to, um, cut loose.

In case you needed further proof that director Craig Brewer's "Footloose" is a thoroughly modern remake of the original, just feast your eyes on this EXCLUSIVE clip. Because Kevin Bacon never grinded like this.

The two-minute snippet highlights new-kid-on-the-block Ren (Kenny Wormald), who's being taught the ways of small-town Bomont. Which apparently include dance breaks at the local snack bar. And it's all going pretty well. He and Ariel (Julianne) have some serious chemistry on the dance floor (parking lot?) as they writhe and bump against one another. (Er, anyone else blushing?) But when Ren realizes Ariel's trying to catch another boy's eye with her smooth moves, he splits. And just in time. Because preacher dad (Dennis Quaid) is none too please. AWK. WARD.

Talk about suffering for your art—the "Mortal Instruments" cast is taking their roles very seriously. First Jamie Campbell Bower (a.k.a. Jace Wayland) told us that he was seriously considering getting a real tattoo, something akin to the runes his Shadowhunter character has on his skin to help him fight demons.

And now, is it possible that pretty, innocent-looking Lily Collins might consider following in Jamie's footsteps? MTV News hit her up at the "Abduction" premiere recently to find out. But we had to break the news about Jamie's intentions.

"Go Jamie!" Lily said, genuinely surprised at hearing the news. "[That's] very dedicated. He is Jace inside and out," she added. "I'm so exited we decided to go with Jamie, he's awesome. I've said it before but I'll say it again, he walked into that room and stole the show, and I'm really, really excited. But that's great! Go get a tattoo, Jamie!"

We then turned the tables on Lily and asked if she'd be willing to get a permanent reminder of her character Clary Fray. And even though we know she's totally and completely dedicated to the role, we were genuinely surprised by her answer.

Hear that sound? It's the first-period bell ringing in the start of a brand new school year at William McKinley High! And changes are afoot. From Quinn's punk-rock pink hair to a slew of fresh faces, the motto for "Glee"'s third season seems to be, "Change is good."

But there are still a few revisions we're pondering, like whether Blaine will indeed transfer out of Dalton, and when we can expect to see those "Glee Project" kids make their big debuts. So we went to a very trustworthy source for answers: Blaine's real-life alter ego Darren Criss.

We caught up with the very dapper actor at this weekend's Emmy Awards, which just so happened to mark the one-year anniversary of Darren cutting his hair to audition for "Glee." My, how things have...changed. For one thing, Darren won't be the new guy around the lockers this year, as several "Glee Project" winners are set to co-star.

"We started working with Damian [McGinty] this week," Darren divulged. "He's a lovely guy. I always liked him, even on the show. He's got a good head on his shoulders—all the contestants did but particularly Damian. It's nice to have a fresh pair of eyes on set. It's fun to see somebody else come in with the same starry-eyed outlook I did, I still have."

Alexander Skarsgård has made a career out of playing complicated dudes. His turn as Eric on "True Blood" is multi-layered, especially now that he's come back from his bout with amnesia.

"They're writing the season right now and there's a great opportunity here 'cause old Eric is back, but it's not the old Eric, 'cause he still remembers the love with Sookie and that changed him," he explained of the plot twist.

And, we have to say that in "Straw Dogs," which hit theaters last week, he plays equally complicated Charlie. Something he said he wanted to bring to his portrayal of the small-town guy still pining over his former love, played by Kate Bosworth.

Are you ready to get "Lost in Time"? The sixth installment in Melissa de la Cruz's popular "Blue Bloods" series doesn't hits bookstore shelves until next Tuesday (September 27), but we have an EXCLUSIVE look at the book trailer to sate your appetite until then!

The 30-second clip is all moody melancholy: Quick shots of Old World architecture are inter-cut with glimpses of modern Manhattan's gleaming facades, all set to a soundtrack of eery, almost-chanting. The trailer's message is simple (yet ominous): Darkness is coming. *Shiver*

Lying GameWith a title like "Bad Boys Break Hearts," last night's episode of "The Lying Game" was bound to be a tough one for the young loves of Phoenix, Arizona, but not even I was prepared for all the romantic turmoil. Let's break it down:

Thayer/Sutton/Ethan
The cat's out of the bag on Sutton's little dalliance. Or perhaps, more accurately, Thayer's out of his clothes. As Sutton video-chatted Emma to "congratulate" her on her Homecoming title, Thayer conveniently came into frame sporting nothing more than a towel and his six pack. Whoops! Would Emma squeal to Ethan?

Once Thayer finally got dressed, he and Emma headed out to continue the search for Annie Hobbes, which lead them to an art gallery. A closed art gallery. That wouldn't open again until November. But no worries! Thayer dug around in the gallery's garbage, finding several shipping receipts that he thought might lead them to birth mom.
