The movie adaptation of "The Mortal Instruments" series might be moving a little too slowly for the tastes of anxious fans, but don't be fooled by the lack of recent news: Things are definitely starting to happen behind the scenes! An insider's tweet from writer I. Marlene King reveals that she's in on the development of the first script, and she's hard at work turning the beloved "City of Bones" into an eventual blockbuster.
Marlene knows how to write teen angst and high drama like a boss; her prior scriptwriting experience includes the complex, sordid stories of "Pretty Little Liars." And last week, she took to Twitter with the news that she's been lending her talents to the script for the first film—and followed it up with some compliments to author Cassandra Clare:
"This is beyond fun," she wrote. "Thank you for creating such a compelling world. I'm having a ball. Jace and Clary have stolen my heart."
Of course, Marlene is just finding out what avid readers already know: that "The Mortal Instruments" is positioned to be literature-to-film's next big thing. And with Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower already raring to go in the lead roles, it shouldn't be too long before we start seeing some serious sneak peekage from the production.
How do you think Marlene will do at bringing this book to life? Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!
